This appears to be a G or H model Beech 18. I flew the E18S for 3,000 hours for a commuter airline in Missouri 1973-1979. I flew scheduled passenger flights, off line freight and passenger charters, as well as mail at night. Flying the mail in Beech 18s was how many of those of my generation got enough experience to get hired by a major airline. But flying the mail in a Beech 18 was a tough job as the flying was all night and the pilots had to load and unload the mail at every stop along the way. We typically carried 2,000 pounds of mail on every leg which was the contract amount we agreed to haul for the US post office.

…this lovingly maintained Beech 18 takes me back to my youth…as a young plane spotter at Cheyenne’s Municipal Airport… …these Uber-dependable rotary’s were a staple of the latter ‘50’s and into the sixties… …the Wyoming Air National Guard had a handful; and for many businesses including the Wyoming Hereford and the Wyoming Angus Ranches used these nearly exclusively as their executive aircraft… …I loved how Beech and Martin both had a variety of interior configurations to satisfy the operator’s unique needs and preferences… …unfortunately, I never was able to wangle a ride; but just the memory of these glorious birds in the taxiways, and hearing that contained radial roar on takeoff brings a smile to my face…😮🛫🆒👍🏽🥰

OMG. I started crying. My father flew PBY'S during WWII. He was posted at GITMO and Whitbey Island. After the war he flew Beech Super 18's for an auto magnate in the midwest as his personal pilot. He became his own success story flying Beech Baron model 58 along with Cessna 206 to keep his amphibian rating. Thank you so much. He was part of the greatest generation. Thank you. Craig

Outside the window there is an October autumn fog and yellow and red leaves falling from Polish trees ... and here are such views! Thank you for taking me on board and beautifully prepared footage. Ah, the trembling of the machine, the roar of the engines, the warmth of the cockpit.

I did two engine inspections on a Beach 18 in Yellowknife one summer. She was on floats so no landing gear issues. Cool old airplane very rugged. Love the sound of the round.

Before the Jet Age, the US Air Force used to fly medivac missions with Beechcraft Model 18's out of Scott AFB, Bellevue, Illinois. 🤠🧐👍

Tremendous video. What a beautiful way to preserve and share the legacy of such fine machines. With similar paint jobs, do the Beech and DC-3 shown in the video share a common owner or past?
@bwinmaine Жыл бұрын
The DC-3 has been based at the Greenville airport, Greenville, Maine for years and used to be a common sight flying at the annual Seaplane Pilots Association Fly-In at the base of Moosehead Lake. It would land on Moosehead, taxi up the ramp at Folsom's Air Service, and be on display there during the fly-in occasionally taking flight from there.

I made the mistake of not using a protective rubber mat on the wing of the BE18 when fueling it up in Portland back in 1992. The owner jumped my case for that. Even before that time and after that time, I always handled that airplane with kid gloves when it came to Portland for gas or whatever. She's just as beautiful now as she was 32 years ago.

She's a pretty plane. That's the first time I ever saw a DC-3 with floats! Does it fly?
@michaelknott43612 жыл бұрын
It did back in the 90s, but early in the 2000’s it was put back on wheels due to something up with the floats. In 2020 it got the floats back, however I don’t know if it’s flown yet. You can see footage of it in flight on KZbin by searching “Folsom DC-3” or “DC-3 on floats”

@wtw842 жыл бұрын
Sky King had a Cessna UC-87, T-50 Bobcat, Song Bird 1 and a Cessna 310, Song Bird 2. The Bob Cat was a radial engine twin like the Beechcraft 18.

Beautiflluy restored Beech 18, yes have seen more than one DC3 on floats, no disrespect but I would be a little concerned flying with a pilot so obviously over weight, am surprised he could pass his medical
