So did The View not mock chemists? strange... as a fellow science geek and lab tech student drawing blood every day and interacting with patients I feel like this is more powerful than strutting around on a stage singing or playing a violin... sure they take talent, but smarts is also a talent that should be recognized. These classes are HARD!

What the naysayers don't understand is that she is showing that there is more to her than a pretty face. This also helps girls understand that they can enter the S.T.E.M. fields. Sure it is not the most impressive demonstration, but the easiest for the time allowed and to clean up for the next act.
@maldar9 жыл бұрын
+serge12351 So Science teachers around the world are also stupid since they use this same demonstration in engage their students? *shakes head*

This is so flipping great. I went to--literally--Pageant U (3 Miss Americas; countless state-level and top-10 winners). Yes, it's an alternative reality, but she's just amazing. I couldn't be prouder to be a Vermonter from Oklahoma. Alayna is just terrific.

Gods forbid a contestant actually tries to use the pageant as a way to encourage girls to do more with their lives than strut around in a bathing suit. When a woman actually does something positive it's irresistible bait for the douchebag TROLLS who have nothing better to do with their pathetic lives than find a way to put her down.

I love this! Permission to be brainy AND beautiful! If ip this gets more young girls thinking about exploring STEM careers or even just STEM interests, then she succeeded. Pretty good for a 2 1/2 minute time limit.
@Alicendre5 жыл бұрын
@Gary DeBlasio she has two bachelors of science and is working on her PhD. But if you're that brainy, do come up with a showy chemistry demonstration that takes less than 90 seconds and requires more intellect.

@Gary DeBlasio and yet I don't see you getting a PhD.

Honestly, I wouldn't consider this a talent. Being a chemist, I feel anyone is able to do what she did. But, still it is different than the rest.
@maldar9 жыл бұрын
+Corey Turpin As a chemist, what would you have been able to explain and do in 90 secs. Sure this is easy, but it helps to show girls that there are women in the STEM professions.

+maldar she really didnt explain much. but again i said it was unique and different and it worked.

+serge12351 I didn't say anything about preparing, I mentioned the time she was allotted to explain and demonstrate. Please, tell us what you would have done serge, that you could do in 90 secs. Please upload a video of you performing said act so we all can see your skills.

well I like this she looks pretty and like she is straight out of one of the old musical numbers in the old movie musicals they used to make or the old shows when they would sing and dance, like the old mickey mouse club or your hit parade you know one of those kinds of variety shows, that is with that sparkly lab gown and sparkly atom on the one side of her chest.

I liked it, but her intro was too long. Should've skipped to 0:54 without the lengthy explanation of "what science is." the demonstration was simple but performed with plenty of flair, pouring catalysts with both hands at opposite ends of the table and moving toward the center. and I loved, "don't try this at home... try it at a friend's home!" It's performance science. Like Bill Nye, but not as sexy (Bill rocks his bow tie too well, sorry.) MUCH better then "I'm going to sing the national anthem*" or some stupid "dance" that guys with prosthetic legs could do. *Ms. Georgia's Opera was a legitimate talent.

I guess it's a nice try at endorsing science to young girls, but she shows it as a performance, no more complex than one for young children...And of course, she's gotta be a stereotypical girl while she's doing it!! So rhyming, talking about her hair and wearing a glittery lab coat dress thing is a must.
