Love this! Practicing solving problems on paper, documenting steps, and most importantly putting ourselves into the shoes of the clients, this really is what the case interview portion is about. Can we logically build solutions from existing data and process.

In my earlier practices, I was suggested to discuss bucket 4 (succes measures) in the clarifying questions beforehand, and adapt your framework to what the discussed goal is (if possible). So e.g. in this case bucket 4 would either be profitability or market cap, depending on what target the interviewer discusses is most important. How do you feel about that approach?

Do More videos like this which helps to adopt a MBB consultant's thought process about solving /approaching a problem. Thanks for this video!
@bandofbrothers58605 ай бұрын
It's a bit contradicting here: 1:50 On one hand they do want us to use a framework. On the other hand they don't want you to use a pre-existing one? Well if I have the same M&A questions for the 9th time why would I use a different framework for the 10th time even though it had proven to be useful? Sure we have to customize our framework according to given questions & the deeper the case goes. But then again you will often face the exact same veriables to solve the exact same problem right? Hence, my framework will have very similiar approaches whenever I face a very similiar problem. Isn't that logical?
@missangielu5 ай бұрын
Let's say, for example, a general M&A framework might have 8-10 areas that you could consider, but based on the specific prompt, some areas are more important than others. Key here is to figure out the most important several areas to structure your problem solving around

Angie, for your pandemic example, did you ever consider/do pro bono work to help struggling businesses that may have not been able to hire an outside consultant? I always thought that would be a cool thing for a company like McK to do. Individually or as a team. Imagine, having a team of consultants currently on the bench going out to economically disadvantaged areas and helping individual businesses thrive and grow within a target area.
@missangielu2 жыл бұрын
Hey I definitely agree, although I'm not involved, I did hear McKinsey were working with governments around the world on Covid strategies, and the firm also does pro bono work on a regular basis

Excellent video, quite useful and beneficial. I practiced the Asian food question, and there is a difference in my note from yours. Perhaps the food pricing in the issue tree might be altered to reflect the average amount paid per customer/order? Then you may further divide it into item prices and number of items ordered. As you mentioned, it's difficult to increase the price of items, but the quantity of items is something the owner may experiment with (e.g. encourage customers to order more each time).
@lihuixu53472 жыл бұрын
I really enjoyed how you structured iFLY's international development utilizing a specific and unique "framework." I usually have trouble naming the various components - instead of "company," you called it advantage, and instead of "financial implications or so," you called it success. Thank you for the video again, very intersting and enlightening.

Hi Angie! I really loved this video! I just ask you a couple of questions i'd really need the answer to: - Are McKinsey case interviews always interviewer-led? And is the structure more or less always a) general context problem solving question; b) analytical part with exhibit, c) "creative" solution and final recommendation? - Is the case interview different (i.e. level of difficulty) for a business analyst and a junior consultant / junior associate? Thank you very much in advance for your answers and for your really useful content!

Hey super sorry for the late comment. It typically is interviewer-led, but always check with recruiter. I haven't encountered junior consultant role, so cannot comment on it

Hi Angie, I am sorry for my bad English. I want to ask, is your suggestion to not memorize frameworks structure is only applicable if we have actually understood the frameworks that you mention not to memorize it self? Because I have no business background at all, and i barely knew about all of the frameworks that people usually memorize. Should I learn about types of the frameworks first or just directly use your method instead?

Is the IMP method meant to be something that you use to help with your practice and develop your skills? Or is it meant to be a problem solving technique that you should use in the actual interview? I just feel like even if I did treat those examples as if it was my problem, I still wouldn't have come up with a great/comprehensive structure like you 😥 But nice video!!!
@missangielu2 жыл бұрын
This is a practice to help develop the habit to approach a problem with structure, which is the same skill you use for a case interview. It takes a lot of practices (2-3 months back when i was getting ready), and now years of consulting experience. So definitely take your time and be consistent, you will see an improvement

Dear Mckinsey & Company employees and alumni, I discovered something sinister has been happening at McKinsey and Company for decades and no one noticed to report it. Since McKinsey & Company likes to pitt their workers against each other. It is time to turn the tables around . Has any of the workers noticed family members passing away right around the time you started working for McKinsey and Company? I discovered a pattern that about 75% of Employees working for McKinsey & Company for 2yrs and left…etc Family, relatives, associates have passed away especially many at young age. These are the patterns my husband and I are seeing while reviewing the data.
