I don't think anyone likes being yelled at in a desrespectful way. I just felt confused when she said it doesn't matter if the person just has a loud voice or is not really upset. I'm from Brazil, and in my culture, we speak louder than Americans, specially when we're excited about things hahaha! I can get loud when conversing with people, so I wonder if I've been triggering people without knowing. I hope not

I "hate" my mom because of her dramatic personality and her lack of control. She was always being a victim, now I see she was just crazy. Because of the disfunction of my parent's relationship I have some traumas I'm working on. Now I'm 18 and I'm okay, but at least since I was 12 until I was 17 I suffered a lot, and she didn't even notice it. Ladies, work in yourself before having children. If you're gonna bring someone to the world to make You happy make sure you're making them happy too. Don't just expect for them to learn how to change if you can't do that first. They're not gonna believe that they can.

I have a friend like this. I love her, but she has an addiction to sympathy and pity that borders on Munchausen Syndrome. Every new person we meet has to hear about all the horrible things her brother put her through as a child, and the awful things he's put her and her mother through as an adult. Yes, he's a jerk, but one of these times when she was going on and on (and on) about his "toxic energy" to the cashier at the New Age shop, I kept checking the time because we were meeting him for lunch afterward. 😶

Your words are so honest and pure and teach me daily how I can be the person I NEED to be 💜💛 I got into an altercation at work last weekend and a young lady was yelling, screaming & insulting me. I remember thinking of your words.. I remained calm- unbothered really. I was a force to be reckoned with! I remembered instantly that feminine ladies NEVER raise their voice or curse because everyone will wonder what’s wrong!! THIS is what I learned from YOU! Thank you Dr. Michelle. Over the past year I realized I've grown up very sheltered, shy, and afraid to try things due to lack of money and overly focused on education. I've also been made fun of for being dorky/awkward by students I tutor. I'm trying to learn how to interact with people and maintain friendships without seeming fake (bc I lose the energy to keep it up with multiple people), not be naive, and trying to increase my stress tolerance, getting to be more aware of the world since I tend to avoid the news. I've been trying to love myself more and speak more positively and take better care of my appearance. It's been hard since I've spent years being ashamed of being Asian in my neighborhood.

You live where you live for a reason and you won't find out until later. But it is great that you stopped watching the news and taking in poison from society and have turned all of your attention to yourself. You are on the right path. My triggers show up the most in romantic and intimate relationships. I think it’s because I have a hard time trusting and being vulnerable and if I’m falling in love, I feel out of control of myself and the situation. There is a part of me that values my freedom and creativity. So, I have defense mechanism. But sneaky, controlling, or dishonest behaviors are the quickest way to trigger my emotions. Then, I will push away and just shut down. I don’t really lash out, but I do shut down and stop communicating. Which isn’t good either. Trying to recognize this and be better for my next relationship.

Over the past 1-2 years, I’ve been even more self-aware than I was before . But it’s helped me self-evaluate my emotional health & how to handle certain situations that entices my negative emotions. I’ve also learned that having healthy alternatives to express my emotions will less likely jeopardize my relationships with people, like painting or journaling or even exercising. For example, I learned that narcissistic people & their behaviors trigger me because of past experiences with them. So the best I can do is either axe them out of my life or keep my distance for the sake of my mental health. I’m 30 years old & cannot tolerate that type of behavior anymore. It’s toxic & stressful af.

When other females gossip or exclude me from the "clique" I get really angry. Or even if another female looks at me with contempt or i sense tension then I get offended. If someone doesn't keep their word to me or picks someone else over me I get angry. And lash out and would cut people off without a word. Positive triggers are if someone understands me or listens to me and includes me and defends me. Or loves me.

I am also a nursing student, currently taking psychiatric mental health nursing; the way Dr. Michelle is able to convey her message and make it easy for the listener to relate it to their own personal lives is extremely convenient and instrumental. A lot of what she is saying is what I have learned in school, but watching her videos really gets you thinking about yourself. So glad I found this channel!

I find that I can control my emotions whilst sober but after drinking everything I’ve bottled up pours out. I want to enjoy drinks with friends but have noticed that I am often becoming overly emotional after alcohol, more so than ever
@drmichelledaf

Yes, because alcohol interferes with your mental faculties making it harder to have self control. This is why it's best to keep it minimal when drinking. That feeling is never worth it. It's good that you've noticed, that's where it begins. Much love to you.

This gotta be the most helpful content ever! Currently going through it with my “stepmother “ and with African family unless you are the same age as the older person , they don’t care you’re wrong and that’s all! Hello dr. Michelle! I just wanted to thank you for all your help as I’m on a journey to discover my feminine side which was not taught to me growing up. I am now embracing who I am and was meant to be. Since I have been using some of your tips I notice the change in how men treat me. My ex bf sent me a lump sum of money just because he said it makes him happy to see me happy. I love femininity feels so natural to me. Thank you again! 💕

It's okay to be triggered. Now is a time to apply what you've learned to do in the triggering situation. If you've learned nothing while healing that can definitely reopen the wound. You will officially heal when you find a way to deal with that situation with emotional maturity and gentleness. Not only for the person but especially for yourself. It can be as simple as appropriately confronting them, not responding to a provoking, etc. Find your way to cope and over time this will make your healing stronger and secure.

I follow a page on Instagram. She's psychologist and was talking about PTSD. she said "it doesn't go away. Healing is recognizing your triggers and learning ways to manage them in a way that enhances you and is effective." That meant a lot to me. People will make you feel like it's suppose to go away and that's wrong. Those are memories and things that happened to you. Growth comes with awareness. For me, I was bullied and abused by females growing up, whenever a female friend excluded me or said something about me I would get triggered. I became aware of it in 2years ago when it happened again. Now I know it was because I had not processed what happened to me growing up.

Definitely felt like you were talking directly to me. I've missed out on alot of opportunities because I was always so emotional and had frequent random outbursts. I recently quit therapy due to my insurance only letting me choose from 3 star places or less. I tried to be positive I know the universe always cares for me. I loved her but after a couple visits I noticed when I would ask her questions she didnt have the knowledge to actually answer them and would just nod at me and say things like yeah sounds like you have a hard time and yeah it's okay to be upset but not actually answering my questions. My point is I'm so grateful to have found your channel after I felt like I still wanted therapy just not from this particular person which is okay. Your energy so caring and genuinely kind. It means alot to me to have someone who can talk and shed light on things I need to understand to heal. Bless you.

My mom is my emotional trigger ... Someone mentioning her, her texting me and it's the worst when she calls me. This video taught me to look at the reason why. What came to me is that my Mother yells, a lot. She isn't emotionally stable and I HATE being yelled at. It is such a sign of disrespect in my opinion. So, my body is ready for the blow of her yelling and it tenses me up. We've had 15 years of these ebs and flows of explosive (non-violent) fights and then we won't talk for a month or so and then we come back together. Honestly, I'm done feeling that I owe her the leniency to treat me this way because she is my mother. I've decided that the next time that she yells at me I will take a deep breath, gather my grace, and say, "Mom, I've learned that people treat you the way that you teach them to treat you. If you continue to yell at me or say hateful things, I will not be coming home anymore or answering my phone." With a boundary like this, she is forced to level up and it also feels like I've created a safety for my inner child by knowing I can pull this statement out whenever I feel it's warranted.

I cried at work back in March. People were upset we werent giving refunds even though they couldnt travel due to covid and I was called all kinds of names by the guests. I normally could take that but in this instance I understood why they were upset and I felt awful. And management were micro managing to where we couldnt even leave our desks unless we had a break or were off work so I had to go to my manager teary eyed and tell them I needed to step outside. That was the first time I cried in 4 years of working there.
