I can't remember who pointed out and where, but they made the connection between drag makeup and 2016 KZbin makeup being basically an equal sign. All these extra steps - baking, contouring, the bold eyes, the big lashes, the beam to outer space highlighter are all drag/stage makeup techniques.

Right I'm still rocking funky eye shadow and Idgaf. I was picking up a lip liner and a woman working on the nyx counter told me she loved my eye shadow (I was the nicest duochrome) and said it was nice to see someone wearing colour because the clean girl look is cool but its kinda boring and I just laughed but kinda agreed. We can be so creative with make up and everyone doing the same trend takes the creativity out of it

I’ve always used a mix of 2016 techniques and today’s and it’s absolutely the way to go! 2016 eyeshadow but just mascara, no fake lashes,medium coverage foundation with a satin finish, beaming highlight but underneath blush, well blended contour with an actual contour shade, natural, full and neat brows but never brushed up or carved, well blended bronzer to mimic a tan and well blended blush and light bake only on tzone never to set under eye concealer and very little concealer to begin with only on darkest part of eye circles. I like all lip products too but usually glossy over matte.

This era was crazy, but honestly i think doing the eyes (maybe the brows too) might be a good tip for me. Looks easier to correct without having to replace the foundation plus they're the hardest part. Glad you're back!!

Omg the rose eyeshadow is such a nostalgic throwback for me lol. Every eyeshadow palette back then was rose gold or pink. Honestly rose gold is still king but more subtle than that. I think the stress of pandemic as well as prioritizing mental health, skincare, and healing, makeup and clothes are more simple and minimal looking. I am in the middle, I love that we don’t have to try as hard and can embrace our skin, but dressing up is fun and it’s boring to only wear sweatpants and moisturizer all the time

8 years later and no joke, I still do the 2016 brows up until now because that what suits me the best. Make up should be fun, feel free to wear 2016 make up at 2024, or the next year, or the next! Doesn't matter as long as you're happy with your look. You slay ♥️

The interesting thing was if they used normal amounts of product with proper tools or if they dripped it on and applied it with a shoe or kitchen sponge.

Damn this makeup look was so iconic it represented a whole generation. All the products too, holy shit I feel like I've been transported back in time. My only gripe was the absence of a liquid lipstick and the potato head at the beginning😂 It would be my go to look for when the hottest tea is being spilt (just for the memories). But alas my favourite look is the no makeup makeup look, literally. As someone who wasn't doing make-up in 2016 (I was 10) I do find myself using a lot of elements from the style of the time. I don't use highlighter, I use blush, but I use a relatively high-coverage base with strong colorful eye looks (usually yellow to red or green to purple lol) and black lipsticks. I'm a very dramatic person lol. I don't use lashes tho, not a huge fan
