I have had legitimate depression since I was about eleven. Probably a bit longer. I grew up getting mentally and verbally abused by practically everyone in my life. My dad was an alcoholic, so on and so forth, stereotypical "broken home" things. It was so bad, though, that I have been sucking in my gut for so many years LITERALLY NONSTOP that it physically hurts to relax it. Anyway, growing up, my mom constantly threatened to just.. Send me away. Found out I was addicted to cutting? "I should send you away." Bad grades? "I should send you away." I was.. A burden. So, I related to this song because I always thought that she truly believed getting rid of me was what she wanted to do, but her "pride" kept her from it. In these later years, however, I grew to realize that my mom just didn't know how to handle me. She knew she had caused damage with her own emotional turmoil and so she felt guilty and she felt like I would get better if she sent somewhere better. Or, I like to think in my heart of hearts that that's the case. I have three suicide attempts under my belt, and I am beyond grateful that I survived them. Remember, the future may look dark. We lose people, people hurt us, but everyone has to deal with that. Be strong.

Nothing makes me feel more comforted than the lyrics of these songs. The sadness, pains and hardships that I can cry out along with Amy Lee, the notes I can reach with her only in striving to release, when I feel the need to listen to these songs I am happy and sad that I need this connection; that someone has to feels what I feel makes me sad, but I am so happy that I have this help. I've always loved this song... I guess I get what most people would call goosebumps whenever I listen to it and I've sung it to myself when I felt like no one cared if I disapeared. I know there are people that would miss me and I love them for that. I also want to support anyone else feeling like they are alone in the world. Basically, you don't need to know someone to miss them. If someone is lonely, reach out and help them. No one deserves to think that they are alone in the world. No one.

I know this is going to sound like any of the other comment of teeny weenies saying this song totally relates to them because their parents totally don't get it and their boyfriend just broke up with them and blah blah....(using totally as exaggeration, by the way) *sigh* these make me cringe because many of Amy's songs from the earlier days had to do with her depression and thoughts of her lost sister. I've had depression paired with anxiety for years and have recently been thinking about suicide more frequently. To end the pain and the lack-thereof because when I feel this hollow inside and can't muster an emotion I don't really see a point in living anymore. And honestly I wholeheartedly believe that it won't affect those around me if I were to disappear. To go missing. I'd just be another name on a tombstone and there would be no difference to the world with me gone. And yet I keep trying to push forward and make something of myself so my life can mean something so someone. It's just very difficult.

It's ok to be depressed. It's ok to cry. But don't let it define you. Don't STAY in it. Being depressed is more a choice than a chemical imbalance or result of an incident. It's ok to be depressed just dont stay in it, get through it.

I get what you're saying, and it's true that some people have total control over their situation and just don't bother doing anything about it, but a lot of people don't have control over the things that are making them depressed. Like, for example, maybe someone's being bullied or just plain ignored. They can't control how other people treat them, and although a lot of people seem to think it's easy to hold your head high and not listen to them, it isn't. After all, it's difficult to convince yourself that you're anything but worthless when so many people, or even just one person whose opinion you value deeply treats you that way. Again, I see what you're saying, and I agree that the people who have power over their situation should definitely take control and make things better, but not everyone can do that so readily, and in the end, it just comes down to finding an opportunity and taking advantage of that, even though people might end up hating you for it. I'm pretty sure that everyone can get better if they just keep trying, though.

+janeyrevanescence12 there can be a demonic spirit causing depression, but that spirit goes away in Jesus name. And yes, being depressed is an active choice. You choose it by coming here. Just like smoking, this song calms your feelings for the moment but have a worse, longterm, negative effect. It's a choice when you let depressive thoughts freely roam your mind. It's a choice to identify with depression saying : I am depressed rather than I'm going through depression. I probably sound rough but that's the only way I can be real with you.

XelPixels My mom thought the same way you did. She didn't understand why I couldn't just get out of bed, put a smile on my face and get through the day like nothing was wrong. Even when I confessed to her that I had considered taking my life, she said that I was choosing to be miserable and showed "tough love" which only made things worse. It wasn't until my dad left us for another woman that she finally understood. She fell into a really nasty depression that needed medication, therapy and a lot of time. When she got better, she did tell me that she regretted treating me the way that she did.

+janeyrevanescence12 I'm not asking you to pretend. I'm asking that you learn to deal with it. It's not easy, but it is a choice. Not working on yourself is also a choice. You don't have to be depressed, you can get out of it. The issue is that people don't want to. They rather self-pity than grow up. It's not easy, it doesn't happen over night, but it is possible. Maybe you need to talk about your issues with a friend, maybe you need to stop bad habits. But it's not impossible and it's not permanent.

the song is about a relationship. she sings that she would of died to know he loved her in past tense, she got past it and learned and moved on to better relationships. this suicide and death talk is depressive for such a beautiful song.

this song haunts my thoughts.....at school i dnt talk to maybe but two people then at recess i just sit in the stands and think about this song. would anyone notice if i left...would anyone miss me then i think no.....no one would then i go ugh the day and listen to this song i act happy sometimes but this song always makes me think and wonder....

This song makes me dwell in the past and on my present loneliness. It's like the song is my own, except the "I won't be home again". You children posting here should know the truth, life doesn't get much better when you leave school. If anything, school is a gift when compared to leaving everyone you knew behind and being stuck not knowing what to do with yourself.
