Ninteen-year-old Dylan Rounds went missing in May 2022 while working at his farm in Lucin, Utah. Almost a year later, the man accused of killing him was arrested after disturbing evidence was found on the young farmer’s phone, which was recovered from the bottom of a retention pond. Rounds' parents, Justin Rounds and Candice Cooley, spoke to the Law&Crime Network about the investigation leading up to the arrest of James Brenner. Sidebar host Jesse Weber breaks down the Dylan Rounds story so far.

I already posted a comment but would like to add a few words about Dylan. At 19, his dream of having his own farm was becoming a reality for him. Many people at 19 have no idea what they want to do yet. Dylan sounds like he was a well grounded young man who knew as a kid what he wanted, he went out and got it. He was doing something that we all need, growing food. We all lost a great young man who was just living his own life. My deepest sympathy to his family and friends.

I remember when "HeavyDSparks" (of the Diesel Brothers) from Utah, went with his crew in their equipment looking for Dylan 9 months ago (video posted 9th June 2022). The parents (especially his mum) invited this search of the property, which I recall included searching by helicopter over his entire property. They were so disappointed that the police weren't taking it seriously, and that the Diesel Brothers couldn't find him that day. (It also was restricted air space, so they had to have permission to fly over, & had to fly according to a strict flight path & keep on constant contact with the tower, because the military were doing activity in that region that day.) I recall that his "farm"/ranch looked like desert, not the lush farming area he came from. It was so incredibly sad. What a tragedy... and of course, since his body wasn't found lying on his property somewhere, that it definitely was a murder, with his body buried or hidden somewhere. I'm glad that finally someone has been arrested over this - and the one the parents thought was involved from the start. Wow, the parents had to fight hard for this. And, I just don't get how a squatter is allowed on someone's property (although having said that, squatting the land was a huge part of Australia's history in colonial days, thus the angst between farmers (or miners) & squatters. What a tragic end to such an amazing man's short life. I feel for Dylan's parents & other family members.

Based on what little info we have, I don't think law enforcement could have saved his life. I'm sure Brenner had taken his life already, by the time authorities were called in. In regard to the lengthy wait for an indictment, it's quite possible they only got Dylans phone unlocked recently and found what was in it. I can’t tell you how many crimes shows I have seen now where police still use that old idea of people “running off” or “walking away”. People simply don’t do that. If family can’t reach someone, something is wrong!

Right .. not much being said.. we can assume Dylan did not die immediately and was lying near that murderer while he was cleaning his gun.. which shows how wicked he is .. because Dylan blood was on his shirt at that time .. Poor Dylan did what he could do and that was the spirit of his mother helping him to get that evidence because he knew his mother would not give up on finding him or what happened to him..
@Seagal655

Possibly it was the murderer using Dylan’s phone to record the scenario like a ‘trophy’ when people take pictures of wild animals (deer, bear) they’ve killed. Afterwards the killer discarded his phone so he had possession of it at some point, IMO. Their original argument was over squatting on Dylan’s land.

Brenner taking Dylan's boots off is a huge clue as to what he could've done with Dylan's body. Why take his boots off? If your gonna bury a body you'd think he'd bury everything with Dylan. Brenner may have burned Dylan. 🤦 There's a reason why he took those boots off I just can't figure out why.🤔

I’m from Southern Missouri and there is a place in our local culture for revenge. This is one of those instances were this guy would never had made it to the jail cell before he was either rifled or strung up. Sad we lost a good hard working young man and a young farmer that this country desperately needs to replace our aging farmer population.

I think Mr. Brenner should be turned over to Dylan's dad and let him torture him until he tells where Dylan's body is. One of my younger brothers went missing for 2 weeks and we wound up calling a Christian search and rescue organization here in Oklahoma. Fortunately they found my brother in our local river after 2 weeks of him being missing and the local law enforcement said it was an accident but we feel he was murdered. I pray they find Dylan.
