Man, watching through a video, anticipating some brilliancy or unexpected, devious scheme to take place by the top chess masters in the world always gets me going. I am always so excited to see what grand plan one of the players has, something creative I certainly couldn't see, leaving me stunned and pulling off an amazing victory. But my heart sinks every time I hear Agadmator say, "In this position they agreed to a draw."

One reason that contributed to Meier missing Rh1/Rh5 is how Magnus laid traps for his opponents in which if you are good enough to get out of like Meier, results in your time becomes severely depleted. There are two traps set by Magnus that the video showed which requires lengthy thinking time to get the right moves.

I'm a /really/ shitty player but at 13:00 isn't Be6+ also a good move by white? The only legal variation is W: Qxe6, which can be followed by B: Qxe6#. Black's queen on e6 can only be captured by the king, but this would result in check by the rook on h6. The king cannot escape the check so this is checkmate as desired.

Kg8 allowing Bd6+ is actually the better move in the position you discuss at the end. After Rff7 it's very hard for white to make up for the sacrifice and there is no longer a forced mate
@sashakondrashov14516 жыл бұрын
using an engine, it looks like the ONLY winning line there is actually: 39. Rh5 Qe7 40. Rxh7+ Kxh7 41. Rh1+ Kg8 42. Be6+ Rff7 43. Rh6 Bb7 44. Qh5 Rh7 45. Rxh7 Qxe6 46. Rh6 (39. Rh1 Qe7 40. Rxh7+ Kxh7 41. Rh5+ Kg8 42. Be6+ Rff7 43. Rh6) is also possible and transposes into the same position, but any other move by white leads to black forcing repetition and making the game continue along this exact line. please correct me if I'm wrong! white makes the sacrifice back only after 46. Rh6 where black is finally forced to sacrifice a piece to prevent mate

Nice analysis. I have no serious objection to a bit of click-bait, but they actually missed mate in 6 starting at move 39 - it's only mate in 2 at move 41of the variation where you pause the video, and then only if Carlsen cooperates, really it's mate in 3 at that point. 39. Rh1 40. Rxh7 41. Rh5+ 42. Rh6+ 43. Qh5+ 44. Rh8 mate. Maybe these guys should see mate in 6 in a complex position but it's way beyond me - about 4 moves beyond me, really. Anyway, you are forgiven.

@jamhamtime18786 жыл бұрын
hq cart look. We all love tal and such, but if he were to play at this time, even in his prime he wouldn't make it far. Tal was really good back then because people didn't have access to genius supercomputers, no one knows how to punish his playstyle. Now, not so much.
@hqcart16 жыл бұрын
if that so, then, future chess is all draw. become pointless game.
@fisher007696 жыл бұрын
1. Just because a game is drawn doesn't mean it's boring. It is when both players play 17 moves of a known line and just draw by 3-fold repetition immediately, but here they were both playing for a win clearly, they just didn't find the exact winning lines. 2. Don't underestimate Tal. He was a very creative player, and in fact his strenght was in that it was very hard to prepare for him because you never knew what kind of crazy sac he would pull out of nowhere. The players could shove their supercomputers up their ass if Tal played something they didn't even analyze. I'd imagine if someone faced Tal and got into a line they didn't look at and Tal just started his usual 'throwing every piece at them' method they would crack under the pressure the same way people did in his own time. Computers have not too much influence on this.
