A racing pigeon released at Mackay to go home to Townsville ended up on middle Percy island homestead at 600feet near centre of island . It was blowing north winds and was exhausted on arrival . We returned it to the Townsville owner who sadly never made contact with us . Cate Radclyffe

We had one land in our backyard once and stayed for two days. I read the band and contacted the club, we live in Melbourne the bird was from Tasmania!

I hate the pigeons. My dad races them all his life. Can't play backyard cricket as a kid in case we spooks the birds. But pigeons is everything to him. He tried to stop after he retired but boredom got the better of of him and started racing again about 5 years ago. He's pretty good having won 2 fed races with well over 10,000 birds in the race. Must be a good feeling to have your bird beating all the others. He even sent eggs to South Africa for the sun city race about 15 years ago.

I love birds I keep pigeons because you can let them out instead of keeping them caged like most domestic birds

Racing pigeon is about breeding and developing of bird of your choice. back in philipines they started crossing breed birds just to get the right characteristic of the birds some pigeon bred is for sprint, long distance, etc. whatever! but some of them they have a poor homing instinc when it gets a too far or if it's over the water some birds never flew above the water that how they get lost while the others keep the line of flight over the water! i'm pretty sure there is GPS races in Australia now. shouldn't be a problem. Race only inbreed birds and cut your line breeding cross it with the other winning lines birds

Magnetic pole reversal the earth's crust has tilted and the North pole has moved 4 mile's in May , June it moved 5 mile's . South pole heading north doing the same just not as fast .

Exhausted pigeons land for a rest and get killed by something. Dog, cat, fox, rat, quoll, shark, car, truck, motorcycle. Or they starve to death.

I got a young one who's still around 150 kilometers away from it's club area, roost to rest on a fruit tree and never attempted to find its way home. I fed the bird and spent a month to tame it. I reported it to the club and no one wants to take it back.

To be fair, they are an introduced pest. If they end up in a trap or shot, it's to be expected. And if taken by a Peregrine, fair play!
