As a Brit this is the first truck I would actually buy, although a lifting axle in front of the drive riides better. Those worried about traction don't forget that in Sweden they run 6x2 at 145000lbs on ice roads without problems, just hit the weight transfer button and welly it.

Why isn't the dead axle liftable?
@AndyTheKenworthGuy4 жыл бұрын
It’s illegal in Manitoba to have a liftable axle.
@wheelman12354 жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same. I drive in Europe and it's very common to see liftable dead axles on tractors, especially in England. Raising the axle saves on fuel and tire wear, when unloaded. The drawback is decreased traction on wet and not so perfect roads with gross weights. . I can see why Manitoba does not permit it. I'm not really a big fan on these axle configurations either. Off the toll routes in Europe, on these small roads, maneuverability is critical and thus the 6x2.
@p1kkujuha4 жыл бұрын
@@AndyTheKenworthGuy really? They're quite common in Europe. Some brands even have disconnecting tandems so that you can lift one of the drive axles. Edit: is dump valve legal?

Yes Volvo and Sisu have liftable tandem, what i know of. But most trucks in sweden are singleaxle drive and liftable tag or puscher axle. Dump valve are most common on trailers i think but yes legal

I drove a KW with a dead axel and super singles. They suck, at times if you are on wet ground and hooking to a trailer you had better get a running start. They are easy to get stuck as well. Overall, I would never own a tractor with super singles with a dead axel.

My finger was flat and had the thread grooves in it .. turned very purple .. killed the fingernail .. died and fell off..

The dead axle is a concept that western star, specifically the 5700 xe is heavily invested. The scenario is wholly devoted to increased fuel milage, and slight weight reduction, no shaft, no lubrication pump. Question why any O/O would sacrifice Canadian winter traction with a single drive axle and super single (hydroplane) tires.? Typical WS ratios in the 2.80 range.
@dutchman25064 жыл бұрын
