100% correct. I am age 67 now, and can confirm that men have NEVER been the answer to ANY of my problems -- they have generally only made it WORSE. I am not a lesbian, yet it is impossible to find a "good man" these days. Female roommates during the college days were NEVER trustworthy. I ended up paying THEIR bills and MY bills, too. Then I was together with my first husband for 19 years. He turned out to be just like the female roommates, only a WORSE RIP-OFF than THEY ever were, all the while making people think that HE was the "sugar daddy." It was ridiculous.

Being a Registered Nurse in Medicare Rehab I can tell of many stories like this. Parents sometimes cut kids off or decrease contact. Not just the kids moving out or kids moving on but their parents moving on. When the parents get older they may take up friendships with shifty people. Poor kids left to sort out what happened.

I'm a retired RN and have seen it both ways. I'd worked geriatrics and hospice for 30+ yrs. I was always working and on call and sadly, with a disabled husband, had to assume financial responsibility for supporting my family, which in turn, was not there as much as I should have been in their formative yrs tho we all loved each other dearly. Now they are grown w their own children / grandchildren and we don't see each other unless it is at one of their child's functions and Christmas Eve. It is not of my doing or desire but that they are now busy leading their own lives. My daughter calls me weekly and we chat. My son is not much of a telephone conversationalist. RIP Pat.

Yeh, I saw recently a story about a woman who had been subject to romance catfish on internet. She had helped her "boyfriend" with money and received some back what she sent back to him. She was now being charged with breaking federal laws of money laundering. The money she had received and sent most of was actually sent by someone who had made an online purchase of some item and apparantly paid to her account, and then she forwarded most to her scammer boyfriend. I saw it as a reaction video at "Sean of steel".

But to answer your question I personally would not feel right if a man put me in his will for a large sum of money and / or a very expensive house unless of course he married me first. And even if he married me first, I still would not feel comfortable if he left absolutely everything to me. I would expect him to leave something to his children🤷‍♀️

Never again. Fifty years of marriage and still going. My husband has been disabled and sick for the past fifteen years. I'm his care taker ,an I have it all to do. It's hard to find any time for myself. Love gardening, especially my flowers. He finds things for me to constantly be doing for him. Time keeps ticking away, don't know who will go first, but if he does, I can honestly say I will never deal with another man. Pat seemed as a very independent woman. The fact she was searching for a new home proves she was breaking ties with him. First thing she should have done was changed her will. Seems he knew she was about to leave,and she would be changing it. So he got rid of her to have it all. Even asking one of his three girlfriends to move in with him. What a sinister man.

Chris had lied for so long to so many people and gotten away with it, that he assumed he was cleverer than everyone else! He thought he had committed the perfect crime, but thank God for the good police men and women who actually did their job properly and followed the evidence. Sadly Pat didn't have a very close relationship with her daughter. When she said she phoned her mum once a month I nearly fell off my chair! My siblings and I phone my mother every night - we each have our own timeslot! 😂 I'm not judging the daughter because no one knows anyone else's relationship, but it's clear they weren't close. Either way, the poor woman didn't deserve to be murdered. She was clearly a capable, intelligent, hard working woman who just had very bad taste in men. Sadly there are many, many women in her position to this day. 😢

Watching these true crime programmes, I remember one interview with a criminal on the Soft White Underbelly channel. The criminal said that decades ago, he got tips for how to avoid being caught for his crimes just by watching TV cop dramas. I'm watching these crime shows now and seriously, so much information to help criminals. Like if you are going to write a fake Christmas card to someone, don't leave the rest of the box of cards in your loft. It would have been very easy to drop them in some random public trash bin before any investigation into Pat's disappearance had started. Don't look up train times on your home computer. Use the library's computers or get access to some public computer for that. Don't bury the body in your own backyard. Don't ask people to lie for you or hold incriminating evidence for you - throw it in a lake or the sea. For someone who went to so much trouble to cover up his crime, this guy didn't really have a lot of brains.

Parents can be often very difficult. My mum resented me for having my own family! When she came to visit, she hated that I didn't let her rearrange our furniture, or didn't let her to take over the cooking or general running of our house! She insisted that she's my mother, so she knows better how to look after our children. She argued about everything from the moment she got up, never even said good morning, instead started ranting at us and our children and this carried on till bedtime. She insisted I need to wear makeup as I look ugly!! She followed me around the shops telling me to look in the mirror to see how awful I look. That's a small sample of my mum's behaviour. She was like that to all of us when we were growing up. She kept telling us all that we were stupid and her friends have very intelligent children. We heard it every single day. 🤗

I choose not to get in touch with my children everyday. Usually once a week or every two weeks because they have family. Everyone is usually busy with work, home or my grandchildren. So I get that pat kept busy. Maybe it was easier for her not to bother her children. But… to give her things over to someone she hardly knew? That doesn’t make sense to me. When our mum was in hospital during her last illness my brother and me were there every single day looking after her, literally spoonfeeding her and fighting for her with the f+++ing doctors (who wouldn't listen; her subsequent death was entirely their fault.) 😢 But the most depressing thing about it was that the staff and other patients all seemed surprised at our devotion. A social worker called us "Marie's two devoted boys." I didn't feel we were doing anything unusual, as I said to them We're just doing what Mum brought us up to do and they all thought it very strange 🤔💔😢😢😢

The only way to possibly describe this behavior is that all staff concerned were just "at their job" and had been so desensitised to sickness and death, that it was a situation to remark on when people showed intense caring. My daughter in law cut contact with her mother entirely a few years ago because of the abuse she endured as a child, which continued into adulthood, the mother was a very toxic person and my DIL's therapist recommended cutting contact. It was the best thing she ever did.

It is a kind of nervous reaction, a defence mechanism. I've even seen some people describing similar circumstances with a short laugh at the start of each sentence. That type of person will often be seen at a funeral of a very close family member, not shedding as much as a tear.........only for them later to collapse in pieces in the privacy of their home.

For some, like me, it's a coping mechanism. I smile to keep from breaking down. It's almost involuntary. My emotions kind of shut off, and I become almost a different person until everything is done. Once the funeral is over and all the legal stuff is handled, THAT is when I fall apart. Not until then. For us, it's a PRIVATE thing. We deal with that in private, nobody gets to see that side of it. Well, because Chris, her murderer, chose to do it over Christmas. He was able to claim Pat had gone to stay with friends just after Christmas, by train, and he'd dropped her off at the station. He and Pat had known each other for decades and he was trusted and liked by everyone who knew them, so no-one disbelieved him, at first.

Oh, and when he called Pat's daughter to tell her Pat hadn't returned from the "visit" he told her she'd have to report Pat missing, as next of kin (not true at all, he could have done) but to wait for a few days in case she turned up. They were actually the first to call and see why she had not shown up for work. Even when hearing she had taken a trip, they found it odd she didn't let them know. I believe after the cops talked to them, was when they really got serious about her missing. Him being a Dr. and explaining that she was very punctuional ,a creature of habit, and no mental issues such as dementia.

I can throw some light on that from personal experience, when a woman alone is being minipulated by a Chris , the shame is enormous and the fear of anyone knowing that you fell into Hell causes one to go to extreme lengths to hide the horror & also spare one's children from the Pain . Been there but thankfully freed myself and learned a tough lesson. An Independent Lady like Pat would want to tough it out on her own.

The bottom, line is that Pat never realized that Chris was an abuser and liar. She trusted him and so did many people. Whatever the relationship with her family was theirs and not to be aired. Pat made her life as she wanted good or bad a decision was hers. Chris was about manipulation, money, and murder. Those two friends learned a valuable lesson and that will make these two be wary of some. Chris manipulated Pat to the point that he got money and business with the house. As far as the adult children their lives will never be the same. Sp, I pray for the family. The Law did an excellent job step by step telling what, how, why, where, and who did this to Pat..

The moral of this story is that if you have 180 pounds and a house that you are leaving someone, DO NOT TELL THEM. Even if that person is totally trustworthy, the person he tells and the person HE tells might not be. If you are just leaving someone $100.00 and they tell this to an acquaintance of theirs, that acquaintance might be a drug user who starts thinking of the drugs that amount of money could buy and he could come to your house and rob you and end your life so he doesn't leave a witness. The fact that Chris and Bob were able to give such detailed information about what Pat was wearing when she left would have made me suspicious. It is highly unlikely that even ONE person would be able to describe what a person was wearing and it would be almost impossible to find TWO people who could do so.
