I got the waxed canvas larger size based on your advice and couldn't be happier. I got bought the folio add-on. I can fit my work laptop, and my my personal laptop, shoes, jeans, sweater, toiletry bag, tablet, charger, headphones...and then other small items. The first night I got it I was so excited I bought some food and some spilled in the bag. but luckily it is completely lined with that weather proof liner. and you can pull it out for easier cleaning. gotta love it. worth saving for.

Mission Workshop makes fantastic stuff. Well-made right here in the US. I've owned Mission, Chrome & Timbuk bags and I'd pick Mission every time. The Arkiv system is cool... I've been drooling over them since they came out.

Thanks for this! These bags are amazing

Honestly there is so much different configuration stuff you can do with the pack and the add-ons that I would go with the larger one and a few of the extras. That will give you maximum flexibility and utility. Dan

Thanks for you reply, I have a separate camera bag that I'm planning to sling at the front for easier access. This bag is just for a laptop, tablet and the clothings.

Keep us posted on how it wears? I was super-impressed by the build. Yes, it is expensive but quality costs... Dan

I tried to make that point in my full review on Gear Diary. It is pricey to start and then becomes even more pricey as you add components. BUT it is exceptionally well made, will last forever and the company stands behind their products.

One of the things I commented on in the review was the fact that the zippers were. Bit tough to open. I mentioned it as a negative but in light of your question I can actually see that being a positive. They would make it tough for someone to grab your stuff. That noted, you might do better with. Bag whose camera comportment in actually on the inside where it strikes you back. That would be safest. Dan

Ours (Gear diary) was a review sample. It is pricey but VERY impressive. Dan

Ive been trying to find a modular day hiking/camping sack. You thing this pack would hold up in the great outdoors?

I didn't see it clearly in your video, but I assume that the shoulder strap goes on the rails? I may just want a tablet bag just for some days as I have a convertible laptop. Also I have an 17" ASUS G75 and also a 18.4" Toshiba Satellite. Would the laptop bag fit that at all?

Nice review, but have a question. How easy it is to be reached from the behind? I'm only asking this question because I'm seriously considering this backpack for two weeks trip in europe and I'm concerned of pickpockets unbuckling it and grabbing my stuff without me being aware of.

What size is that? The larger one it appears is literally twice the capacity. I need a bag for my work laptop and a full bag of groceries and random other small items. Which would you recommend Gear Diary?

What size of this backpack? Small or large?

I wish I could answer accurately but my biggest laptop is 15" not 17" and the backpack is in other hands now. Sorry. Dan

Great review! Would you say the 20L is on the smaller side? I am thinking about getting one, but not sure what size to go for. I mostly use my backpack for commute and work and I don't put a lot of stuff in it. But I am 6.1, so 20L might look a bit "tiny" on me. Do you have any suggestions?

I don't like to seams very critical, but how much functions it has, and how many steps it takes to get one simple ipad or laptop or i don't now what I know that it made of security reasons, but why to make the way that it takes you some minute to open it, its annoying and every next word is about its waterproof material, it is important but not us mach that needs to be repeated after every two words, and also it cost too much

+Anna Mursalyan Granted yes, these bags are really expensive.. I own the Fitzroy personally, which is quite a bit cheaper than building up one of these Arkiv bags.. but i will say.. its probably the best backpack I've ever used (build wise).. in the past few months I've taken it to Mexico City with me and also a trip along the east coast for a week.. the 40L can fit a ton of stuff AND are built very well.. so just like buying a really nice piece of luggage its kinda the same thing. you gonna get a high quality product that definitely delivers.. and with this arkiv system you can have even more space to organize stuff. Id say, if you travel a lot or do a lot of over-nighting at places i.e. conventions or whatever, its a pretty sound investment. But as just an everyday backpack I can agree with your comment a bit more.

Good luck using this if you carry anything in the main compartment that isn't square or rectangular, your rail system won't work!

I would have bought this for school but after seeing your great demonstrative video I have no desire to do so. Mission workshop does a terrible job of advertising features in their videos. Likewise, there are no dividers in the supposed folio plus the bags are too deep and cannot see textbooks or risk ruining the bindings. It needs more organization to be truly "modular" which I have to say chrome understands better. It would be nice to have a side zipper pocket for easy access to articles. Oh, and I have seen both chrome and mission workshop bags and have to say chrome uses a more durable lining.
