Just came across your videos. I am enjoying it very much. Is there anyway you can move from the wheelhouse and tour the boat such as the crew quarters, deck crew jobs, engine room, crew chef?

In the spring of 1975 I was living with my Uncle and Aunt when the river rose. I was living with them so I did not have to change schools in the middle of a school year. Even though my Uncle's house was right at two miles East of the river and but real close to the Loosahatchie River, when the flood of 1975 happened the Loosahatchie rose and started taking up my Uncle's pasture. Everyday when I got home from school, I stick a new 6 foot long bean pole in the ground at the edge of the water After three days the first pole would be underwater. The water got so deep we launched a flat bottom boat from my Uncle's drive and paddled across the four foot high pasture fence. The water did not get up into my Uncle's house, but it came close. The house he built is Benjestown Road at Lat 35°13'45.90"N Lon 90° 2'18.74"W.

I don't think many folks understand just how important our rivers are . For alot of us it's where we get our water for everyday functions. Especially selling n shipping our goods as well as getting them. Great video!! Always is.!! Thankyou

Are barges full only when going down river or in both directions? My guess has always been that they would be full going down river and empty pushing them back up. It's something I've wondered since a kid watching barges go by at my Grandpa's house in Caruthersville.

They go both ways, empty or full. Depends on what the cargo is, and where it’s going.

Has there ever been any talk about installing a dam above Baton Rouge somewheres to hold back waters and maintain some decent operating depth for Towboat Traffic?
@marktwained3 ай бұрын
That would be a massive undertaking. With the flat lands closer to sea level south of Cairo, it would flood too many metro areas to create such a reservoir. I’m not saying it would be impossible, but definitely seems impracticable.
