I wasn't a particular fan of orchids until my goddaughter brought me a Phal for Easter. I had never seen an orchid with yellow flowers before. The blooming lasted for almost three months, after which I was wondering what to do with the plant. Then I came across a video of yours and realised that the Phal needed my help as she was growing in a pot much too small for her. I wouldn't have ventured to do the repotting if I hadn't seen your instructive videos, and even now I was extremely nervous and tried to get the Phal into the new pot as quickly as possible, fearing that she might suffer if she didn't get the new medium around her roots asap. After a few days she decided to push herself into a position which is almost vertical, but as she seems to be quite happy, I let her stay as she is now. Thanks to you, the Phal has become more than a mere plant for me - she is my baby! 😊

My mom bought me an orchid last November. I was actually quite upset because I kill all plants within weeks and I didn't want the poor thing to die. So, I watched some videos and I have tried very hard to keep it alive. So far, it has been the only plant I have ever kept alive for more than a month lol! It is now 10 months old and had grown 4 new leaves. I'm hoping to get it to bloom this year too! Thank you for your helpful videos.

Dani, I've watched a ton of your videos. I'm a serial killer of houseplants and my heart sinks whenever I receive a plant as I know I won't be able to care for it. Anyway, my husband got my a pretty phal for our anniversary, and I was determined to keep it alive. I read the instructions on the plant tab...imagine that, it helped! So my phal bloomed for months and months and also grew three new spikes! Feeling like a pro, I told my husband I was only happy to get orchids for houseplants. He bought me another and i moved house...and that one got spotty flowers and dropped the blooms. I then received a mini phal as a housewarming gift, which also drops its flowers. After this, all their leaves looked shriveled and floppy and i finally went online for help and found your videos. A week later, and my flowers have improved! I've repotted them all and they all had rot sho I've followed type advice for them and also used lemon juice on the leaves, and they look great! So, thanks From my orchids, and I'm now a big fan of orchids. I'm not going to buy more, until I know more but ius definitely a new love.

I just repotted it after watching your video and since I think it is getting ready to bloom, watched this video which explained what to do. Those stems are brown and between the last two leaves…i noticed another one on the other side. I hope I repotted it at the right time, it had a lot of dead roots. It is near a window and now know about the stem reaching for the sun…thank you for this video. Very useful information.

I have asthma and cannot open my windows ever. I'm also disabled and have chosen growing and care for orchids as a hobby I can enjoy indoors. Gardening is my passion but no more. Orchids are truly rewarding and I'm having a blast with my small but gigantic successes of keeping my grocery store orchids alive and now starting to thrive. So, I have three phals and four dendrobiums (one is a Mint Chip). I just watched "How to Get Phals to Rebloom." You mention the trick of cooling the plants and tricking them into reblooming. Please confirm the indoor temp of 17-19C, and what can I do to mimick a cool down. I'm unable to move the plants outside, and putting them near the window is not an option. Can I place a small refrigerated or frozen cold pack (little frogs) on the plant or inside the planter beside the plant to achieve the same results? Is there such a thing as a desktop A/C that is the preferred method? Please advise me when you get a chance. You're my favorite teacher. 😇

She lives under led strip lights in a small grow space in my living room, and she's just starting a new leaf. Daytime it is about 23, night time about 17/18 degrees. Would she be out of sync and is there anything you would suggest I alter? This series has been so helpful and well presented, thank you Dani 😊 You've been instrumental in helping me understand my phals and other orchids so much better, which makes me very happy indeed.

I have several phalaenopsis orchids and repotted them year before last after they bloomed. They have been growing well and have lots of healthy leaves and roots but they have not rebloomed- one for 2 years at least. I have other orchids in the same window that have continued to bloom (and have keikis!). I upsized my oldest orchid (possibly 8-10 years old) to an 8 inch pot and used the phalaenopsis gold medium from RePot Me. The other one I upsized from a 4 inch pot to a 6 inch pot in the same medium. Neither has bloomed since. I'm perplexed as to why they haven't bloomed now, 2 winters in a row. I will try dropping the temperature next fall. Any other ideas why they may not be blooming? Could it be because I upsized their pots?

My orchid was purchased with 3 flower spikes! This bloom it produced 1. Did I take it out of the cool environment too early? If it will have more than 1 spike do they grow at the same time? My spike is starting its buds, while it has flowers can I chill it again to get another spike?
@lauragaede57524 жыл бұрын
I just ordered new media and a ventilated pot. Waiting for them to arrive. My question is that my flower has not grown a spike in a over a year. It has grown a new leaf though. Do you think with new media, and a root trim that it will help it and I may get a new spike at some point?
@neoagegirlthemaverick74684 жыл бұрын
Same is happening with my very first orchid, I didn't have any idea what I was doing with it, but luckily it is still alive, roots are healthy and it has one new leaf but the others are leathery/wrinkled. I also bought new medium, pot and fertilizer. I think my problem started with not replacing the media, it is 3 years old and soft so I'm confident that environment has not been beneficial for my orchid, second I wasn't watering enough, and lastly I never used fertilizer on it since I got it. So 3 years of same old media, no fertilizer and irregular watering so it is no suppose my orchid hasn't grown, much least spike and bloom. I'm hoping now that I am actually doing my research and I having had success with a another orchid which is just over a year old and bloomed but then product secondary spikes (which are still making new buds) and a keiki that I can revive my little one. Most important I think it old media, it needs to be fresh for orchid to be healthy, second is fertilizer, the older the orchid the more nutrients it needs to maintain itself and theoretically the older it is, the bigger it is and thus more nutrients needed. And lastly is watering more consistently but with the other blooming orchid I still don't water it as often as I probably could but it seems just fine with that lol.
@mangooverlord20144 жыл бұрын
Neoagegirl The Maverick it’s probably my old media. Orchids need to breathe. Fertilizer is important as well, and at 3 years, you’ll definitely start seeing the issues. If it’s too hot or too much direct sunlight (direct Indoor light seems to be fine for me, might be the UV rays), that’ll yellow the leaves. Leathery leaves or very floppy leaves means it’s not getting the right amount of water. Broken down media can change how it retains moisture, most often holding more because the air pockets are gone. I’d recommend repotting, fertilizing (I use miracle gro powder every third watering), and checking temperature.

I've had my Orchid for a couple of years and I was wondering why it kept growing leaves and roots like crazy. I thought I was doing the right thing by keeping it cosy 😅 but I would like flowers too!
@galamander_13273 жыл бұрын
Me too. For 10+ years I had several species of orchid, all growing leaves and roots like monsters, even making some keikeis, but never blooming. I'd ask what to do at the orchid shows and never got any info except give them water, food, light and super narrow temperature ranges. I'd show them pictures of my robust orchids and they'd shrug. I gave up and just enjoyed them as unusual houseplants. Finally, after watching some of Dani's videos ALL my orchids have bloomed this year, some of them twice. New flower spikes galore. Some of the folks I asked in the past were commercial growers or hobby growers themselves, not just resellers. How could they not know?
