I’m laying in bed at 5:15 a.m. watching you make quilt after quilt after quilt. You have a wonderfully calming voice, and lovely, fun , sense if humor. These attributes have gotten me through a very painful night, and I want to thank you for all your efforts-- you bring joy to me in these crazy days of covid, political disruption, and my physical pain! I’m grateful!!! Thank you 😊.

Nice! Because the "star legs" on the large star are blue, I would arrange my 2.5" squares in the centre such that there are no blue squares on the outside. Just to maximize the contrast between the centre and the star legs. But everyone can do what they like best, of course! This is such a lovely BOM!

Wouldn't it be easier to have the seams go in opposite directions by sewing the small blocks together in rows of 4 pieces, and press all seams one way, stitch the second row of 4 pieces together and press the seams the opposite direction? Then stitch row 3 and row 4 together and alternate the direction of the seams? It seems to me it would be a lot easier than making 4 4-patch blocks and mess with the direction the seams are pressed and clipping the seams that are not pressed the right direction.

I just love watching you. I have learned so much and I am learning to relax and enjoy the process. I am about to start on my third quilt, so I am a beginner. I have just signed up for the block of the month! Please, Jenny, I just know there is something I am missing. Sometimes I see you sew all around the 4 sides of a square and then cut two diagonal cuts. Sometimes, like with this block I see you make a single diagonal line and sew 1/4 inch away on each side of the line. When is which, and what for, ya know?
@MrsGraphiteGal2 жыл бұрын
It depends how big the finished square needs to be. If the squares for making the HST's are much larger than needed, the see all round and cut twice diagonally works, if the blocks aren't much larger, the sew both sides of the diagonal works. Also depends how many units the same you need - a scrappier look, you're better using the sew down the diagonal, if you need lots of HST's the same fabric combination, use the sew all round method but remember to make the squares large enough.

If one doesn't have a Clearly Perfect Slotted Trimmer, a tube strip ruler works almost as well. It just lacks the slots for trimming off the dog ears. I have one of the Clearly Perfect Slotted Trimmer. I think I bought it when it was a daily deal. So far on every occasion I've had to use it, it's been the wrong size. I need to get the rest of the set. In one of your videos, it might have been the previous All Star Block of the Month video, you commented on your machine's speed and said you have a granddaughter who is a turtle sewer. I recently splurged and treated myself to a Juki DDL-8700. I've seen conflicting information on its maximum speed. It's somewhere between 4,500 and 5,500 stitches per minute. It will be a looooooooooooooong time, if ever, before I'm ready for that speed. I'm still a turtle sewer. Fortunately the 8700 has a speed regular control on its servo motor and sews very well at turtle speeds. I'm surprised at how smooth it sews, and have come to realize the vintage machine I'd been using probably needs a bit of a tune-up. I love the knee lift and treadle style foot pedal on the 8700.
@kevinmonceaux21013 жыл бұрын
Well, a tube strip ruler works almost as well if the person behind the ruler knows what he's doing. The few blocked I rechecked after pressing are all undersized and not quite square. It looks like I'm going to need to invest in some extra fabric to get this block done right.

Help would be greatly appreciated! I am having trouble with the month 2 star patch, the smaller one,. I have been crazy crazy careful with my seams and following the directions over and over again. My flying geese come out smaller that my 4 patch even when I do scant scant quarter inch when making the flying geese. What is the correct measurement of the finished 4 patch? That maybe my probelm, but I did a generous quarter inch seam when making the four patch. Anyway, Help would be so so appreciated. Thank you!
