Jeff, great job explaining wind. I saw a video of a guy in a city out east. He bought one of your wind generators and it did so well for him that he bought a second one years later. He had an L shaped house in a typical bedroom community, and mounted the generators on the front and back of his house, on the peaks of his house. He even got a bad core that you (Missouri Wind and Solar) replaced for him. He had nothing but good things to say about you all, from purchasing, to support, to customer satisfaction. It was a great video. He showed those turbines spinning and talked about how much better his system was keeping up with his demands on the batteries. I know location is everything, but if it works, isn't that a win?

Ray Konold I sure am glad to hear that. I have always really tried to help out people and solve any problems they might have with our wind turbines. Most people are pretty reasonable when it comes to them having one of my wind turbines in a not so good location. In the end if his system is now working for him then that's all that counts. I don't want anyone to be disappointed with there system no matter where they got it. Wind and solar does work and it should be on every home in America. Imagine someday no more nuclear power plants needed, no more need to store nuclear waste that will kill all of us for generations to come. No more coal plants and the deadly toxic coal ash they produce. Coal ash ponds have broke loose and contaminated rivers and drinking water with toxic chemicals.

Thank you for this info. I bought 2 turbines, a horizontal axis & a vertical axis type to compare the performance of each. I had planned to mount them on building roofs, but now realize the wind observed at that height is probably "dirty". You prevented a wasted effort on my 1st installation, & I plan to raise each on masts out in more open areas.

Cleared a lot of questions up about the problem of roof wind turbulence and what I call 'eddy currents' which affect turbine efficiency - thanks for your honest knowledge Geoff. I recall decades ago when a national UK company started to sell small wind generators for £1500 UK to urban dwellers and within 12 months the product was withdrawn due to customer complaints which you've just so clearly explained now. Good advice.

Great video Jeff. A guy with a channel on here called AZ OFF GRID, records videos about his progression to going off grid and he put up a micro wind turbine. He's not getting much power out of it, but it appears to be really moving. I dont think it's over 30 ft and there's a lot of trees around. He may be experiencing this turbulence. I'm going to forward this video to see if it will help. I'm taking notes on all this for when it's my time. Thanks again.

Good God, great advice... Years ago my brother got up and full of money and invested in solar and wind. He lived on a hillside facing Clear Lake in California it was super windy there it would blow your hat off, his wind turbine would work sometimes but sometimes it was barely going or not at all. The majority of the wind he was getting was dirty wind. The hillside that the wind hit, the bushes and trees even though he was above them, yes it would blow your hat off... now and then when his wind turbine was really going, was a special occasion where the conditions were just right and you was catching the breeze from the right angle. This video helped explain what I witnessed.

I LOLed at your last comment on the guy buying a $200 rig expecting to power his whole house. :) I just started looking into this. I've noticed the situations you're talking about and never thought about the turbulence in the wind being the issue. I just looked at it due to lots of gusting not working. which is basically the turbulence. Makes more sense to me when i remember to think about wind as a fluid. This video confirms if i want to try wind, i'm going to need a tower. I have a wall of trees and some silo in front of the normal ground wind direction. You look like you've had a bad few days seeing/dealing with these situations. Good luck. I'm enjoying, and appreciate, your informative videos.

MissouriWindandSolar I got to go about 80 foot in my area to get into my best clean winds ,, a tower like that is not going to happen any time soon for me ,, I try to explain that where I have my turbines located at and the power they are making for me Is very cool , My turbine mounts are probably the worst possible locations for my summer time winds, but they still work, I do not expect to get max potential power from my turbines in my locations dirty turbulent winds, especially where I have my turbines mounted , But I do get really good power during winter time and that is when I need it the most for my battery backup power setup :) Maybe the name Wind Turbine is confusing for some people ,, they think it means put it in the back yard behind a barn or something? I don't know ,,, IF YOU WANT POWER FROM A WIND TURBINE,, YOU GOT TO PUT IT IN THE WIND :) simple as that, heh

Thanks so much for such clear explanations. We all know better than to completely accept what companies and (most) sales people say about the top performance of the products they are trying to sell. You have untangled a lot of questions I've had about wind turbines for a long time. By the way, you might want to mention an added perk if anyone putting up a wind turbine 60-80 feet is a radio operator. They can spend a tiny amount of extra effort and add a vertical antenna to the pole on which they are putting up the generator. Thanks again. Dave, WD4HEW

Thank you for this information! This kind of information needed to be out for everyone that is thinking about wind and solar. I live in town and have been thinking about solar and wind. I am in South Florida we get a lot of rain and there for over cast.. If I had not seen your videos I would have wasted my money with wind, because even with a 60 foot tower I may not get much power from wind because there are taller trees and building around me. I can feel the wind but it isn't clean wind I can tell because it comes from all around. I have a 60 ft Rohm tower and was going to put one on it will not work because there is so many things must higher around!! THANK YOU FOR THE INFORMATION!!

I think your spot on, people buy things and really don't know what their doing, ,myself included. Though I had no plans for wind I do for a few solar panels in addition with regular electric, to cut cost.and once I learn more perhaps replace the dreaded electric bill. I do all my own stuff and times like this is when help is greatly needed but I don't have that. Therefore I will continue to read and learn until I feel near expert and tackle the task. Good video, hope those having the issues listen, in my experience many of them will remain the same. You tried and that's what matters.

I bought one of your turbines and I live in the suburbs. I have it installed at 20 feet but I have open area to the north and west, which is where I get most of my wind. I have been known to get 25 amps at 24 vdc. I did a wind survey of my property to find the best place to place it. I added a 144 watt solar panel to compliment the turbine. Do your pre-placement homework. I have an 800 watt turbine. I was the only person with electricity during hurricane Sandy. Have realistic expectations. On a really good month I knocked off $95 off my electric bill.

Great information and straight to the point, I have a 500w 48v wind turbine that was up 21ft and I was happy with the peaks it was getting with rectifier connected to a 36v battery bank ( expecting losses due to windings for higher volts and height factors) and accepted due to environmental factors it was never going to generate what the m/s vs power chart suggests, I think more people should watch this video as a fantastic debunk on the " I got sold a duff turbine" which is littered all over KZbin as you say! Several people already do that i just have not done any videos on it. Stay tuned because a guy is coming up from Florida with a travel trailer he built and it has a wind turbine mount on it. He will be stopping at the store with it.

Jeff ,very informative information. I have one question, where did you get the base for the wind turbine on the roof? Orhowdoes it looks like?

Jeff, it is unfortunate that we live in a society where common sence isn't so common, and let's face it, some people will Bitch if they were Hung with a new rope. Great video. Erik

Jeff, or anyone that knows - have you done a video on how to install an 80'--100' tower along with the cabling? I'm an avid new subscriber and watched a few but don't remember if I've seen anything yet about that. Already have solar but I want a multi-fueled off-grid situation. Thanks for all the hard work you put into these videos for all we common folk that will gain from your experience. Much respect. EDIT. FOUND THE 2-PART. Took all of one minute. Embarrassed.

I live in Losantville, IN at the top of a hill and I have regular winds of at least 10-15 MPH and was wondering what kind of turbine I should use?

Jeff, I'm enjoying all of your videos and learning a lot about solar and wind power but my question is what keeps the wire from the wind generator going down the pipe from getting kinked if wind comes from a different direction?

7:09 - you weren't wearing a hat. 19:34 - are these two in any way associated with the animated sitcom known as "The Flintstones"? If so, did they have Babylon batteries in Bedrock? PS: Did you like Betty or Wilma the best? PS: PS: - Do you have a video showing how to connect and combine wind power with solar power? PS: PS: PS: I do like you straightforward, no nonsense, honest approach! Keep tell'n it like it is and I'll keep watching!
