In this tutorial I show you how I regularly set my hair overnight using sponge rollers on dry hair. This curls my hair beautifully for brushing out the next day without the damage of a head set.

Little tips from a stylist in the industry 41 years. You will get a smoother look with no roller splits if you use your rat-tail comb and zig-zag your sections. When you brush it out it will blend much better! And don't take sections larger than the roller itself.Beautiful set! Look up pivot point sets, as it gives you more ideas on sectioning!

What do you mean by "zig-zag your sections"?
@doejohn6197

preternatural It mean when you part a piece of your hair don’t part it perfectly straight but part it in a up and down motion like a zigzag so that when you take them down you won’t see theses straight parted lines all over you head

Thanks Cindy - I have not had much trouble with roller splits, not enough to warrant the zig zag technique. I also wanted to keep this tutorial as simple as possible with the placement as not everyone watching are trained professionals like us ;-)

Ok im just starting in the cosmetology industry im about 300 hours in beauty school and i love doing foam rollers but they dont teach you how to do a foam roller wet set in beauty school only the hard plastic rollers that you cant sleep in. I was wondering can i do foam roller services on a client in my own salon one day? How do i properly disinfect a foam roller for a client?
@lilibetp
@lilibetp 4 жыл бұрын
@@ameliabelle9666 that's an interesting question. I wonder if the foam part can be washed in a front loader. Maybe in a lingerie bag? You definitely want there to not be an agitator. The plastic bits can be washed in a sink with hot water and detergent.

This brought back memories of my mom rolling my hair every Saturday night so it would be curly for church the next morning. She kept each individual curl intact like Nellie Olsen. 😂 She was a hairdresser and I was her captive only daughter. She is gone now, and I would love for her to roll my hair again. 🥰

Alright ladies, if you have thick hair make sure you double or triple the number of sponge rollers. I'm Latina with thick hair! fortunately, my hair is shoulder length but this still took me about 1hr and 45 minutes. I had to do my sections wayyy smaller. That little pink sponge could barely hold my hair lol

Good video, but here’s a tip that works for me: buy a box of straws for about a dollar, remove the pink clips that come inside the foam rollers, insert straws in the slots instead and cut straws off at size of rollers. This will work on almost any size foam roller. Roll hair, sliding long Bobby pins easily through the straw to anchor. Much easier, more comfortable, especially to sleep on and they will stay in place, not move around or tangle. Also, we already put so much product on our hair as it is, just spraying rolled head lightly with water works well and can give a softer look. 😊

@@darlaburruel2454 Before putting rollers in your hair, you would just pull out the clip thingy that comes with the roller, slide a medium-size plastic straw into that same slot and cut off the extra while in the roller. Don’t use skinny narrow straws- use medium-larger so the bobby pin fits through when you set your hair. Do them all first and you’re ready to roll. Use the big long bobby pins, one for each roller. Spray lightly with water or hairspray. Hope this helps 😉

Great foam roller set. And thank you for the tip on how to get a better swoop in the front and for saying you need to have drier hair too in order for your set to hold. I have thin baby fine hair and my curls do not hold, they start to droop and I'm left with some sections still curled and others frizzy and wavy. I learned my hair does not like me using a lot of products on it and like you my hair needs to be dry before I do a foam roller set. And I curl my hair with water. And I use my pinch fingers together and smooth the hair as I am rolling it.

I use foam/sponge rollers because I don’t like the idea of a heat roller damaging my hair, and I get mega scared of heat rollers because I fear it’ll get too hot and burn my hair or I can’t take it out of my hair. It’s an anxious thing I got. And I like spongey ones because you can leave over night. I realized recently that I’ve damped my hair a bit too much which leaves the curls still wet looking almost like it’s greasy. Which irratates me even though I washed it right before rolling. Half of it is dry and the other side is “grease” like wet. Part of the curl is split and wet looking and doesn’t look clean. I also realized the whole point of foam rollers really are to let air pass through the sponge to allow drying and you’re not supposed to to have pretty damp hair, and tighten the curl around curler like you’re choking it…cough….I’m new at this I’m still learning! Sooooo little bit of hair lightly around not way too damp, even though it’s the only thing that help have the layered parts of hair stay together than fall apart when basically dry…..still learning…it also doesn’t help when you get a new haircut and they part it in the middle and you now start to part of the side and your hairdo is…………..yeaaaaaaaa…I also hate the Velcro like rollers. It does absolutely nothing!!! It’s catches onto your hair in the morning when dry and ruins it

Over directing the hair gives you an on base roller placement. The 90 degree angle will give you a half base placement and under direction will give you an off base placement. When I was ready for my cosmetology license exam, I had to know and be able to do all three placement settings.

I have, like you said, experienced that my hair is still damp in the morning if I roll it in when it's too wet, so now I do it on dry hair and spray each section with a mixture of water and setting spray. One question though: do you have any tips for someone that has fairly curly hair so half of the time it gets really, really frizzy? Any type of vintage hairstyle I try fails because I have really messy and frizzy hair. Any roll seems like a big no no to me because it's impossible to keep the roll in position and frizz free.

Ur hair is so gorgeous!💕 I did this, and still have these rollers, when I started using Wen in 2012. They like u to round brush dry then at night, put ur hair up in pincurls. Peeps trying to do 'the program' struggled cuz this is hard til u learn how. I love ur tip to use the comb to guide the hair onto the roller...i had many a wonky hair cuz I didn't kno that.😂 Now, my hair that was chin length and ruined, is down to my rear in back, and nearly as long in the front...all cuz of not using heat...and using Wen of course. At night, i just loop sections into loops the size of soda cans and use bobby pins to secure(those clips u use drove me nuts digging into my head all night, but I endured for a long time to grow my hair out). I wear a bouffant hairnet to keep things from shifting during sleep and in the am, just take out the pins, shake out and finger comb my hair and I'm good to go...no appliances used at all. I wish more women would do these roller sets cuz it literally makes ur hair so healthy and gorgeous, and I'm sure helps keep ur gorgeous color much longer. Great vid, love ur channel and omg ur just gorgeous!!!💐

Can you please tell me where you got your head scarf and if it's silk. I want to buy ones like that in multiple colors to wear out. I also dress vintage.

Where do you get your hair scarves? All I can find on Amazon are either scarf caps or scarves that are too short to tie around my head. Thank you!

One time I used a round hair brush and almost lost half of my hair but luckily my mom helped me get it out with a fork and oil. It was so scary.
