In general, I'm a fast backstroker, but I constantly bump into the landline or when I turn around to flip turn, I'm like three feet away from the wall. :-(

It's all about practice. Watching your kick will help you to swim in a straight line. As you move your arm into your stroke, turn your body slightly in the same direction of your stroke as you kick continuously. As you move to your other arm do the same thing. (If that didn't make sense: as you bring your right arm back, kick slightly on the right. Same with the left. :D) Try to keep your number of kicks even for both sides. You can count how many times you kick for one stroke and just keep repeating that as you turn your body for all of your strokes. 1, 2, 3, 4. 1, 2, 3, 4. 1, 2, 3, 4. and so on. :D (But the number of kicks you do may be more or less than 4. Just find whatever works for you. :D) Counting your strokes for one length of the pool you use with be really helpful with backstroke flip turn. There are also pools that have two sets of flags a certain distance from both ends of the pool. Counting your strokes from the flags to the wall can also help you determine when to turn for your flip. I hope these tips will be of some use to you! Keep practicing and you may eventually be like Missy! :D

After the start and after each turn you are allowed to be underwater for 15 meters(its faster that way if you have a good fly kick. Head must surface by or before 15 m. Count your kicks underwater and work hard on your kicking if you want to be a good backstroker.

The commentator states, a little ways into the video, that if Missy won this race she would become the first swimmer at this Olympics to win 3 golds, but that Michael Phelps could change that with his race later in the day. That makes no sense at all. If you are the first, then you are the first. What someone else does later does NOT change the fact that you are the first. Or am I Missing (no pun intended) something??
