I'm terrified about going into halls cause I'm very introverted and need my space but I chose a hall that has flats of between 4 and 6 and it's the smallest hall so there are not many flats in it 👍

Literally everybody is in the same position as you. I’m an introvert and going into halls and I’m excited about it because It’s like a clean slate for me so it’s like as if I’m getting away from anxiety if that makes sense. If you pretend to be confident and “fake it ‘till you make it” it actually works, especially if you’re away from home
@vhehl6984 жыл бұрын
@@catrinwilliams3016 definitely. I went to uni for a summer camp last summer and this technique worked out really well, I met some great friends there and am still in frequent contact with them! I can't wait for the summer when we'll meet up again :D
@gd47616 жыл бұрын
I don’t agree entirely with what you said about noise and making noise complaints. Making a noise complaint isn’t petty and I want any new first years to know that if they read this. I made multiple noise complaints in my halls as some of my flatmates would bring their friends into the kitchen to party on week nights, not tell the rest of us and be so noisy and wake us up when we had lectures in the morning. Yes people at uni like to party but they need to respect other people and it’s unfair to say that complaints are petty. They can take the party elsewhere and anyway, the halls rules at my uni state that you should quiet down after 11pm on week nights
@niamhdoran81586 жыл бұрын
Gee I agree, I personally was on teaching placement 9-5 every weekday for 6 weeks and the noise in the building across from me was ridiculous as they’d open their windows and play music really loud. If it’s during the week and you have early lectures or are doing a placement for medicine etc I believe it’s completely acceptable to complain as it does make a difference.
@gd47616 жыл бұрын
Niamh Doran yeah at the end of the day, you have the right to live in peace. If they wanna party go elsewhere
@peacevibing55616 жыл бұрын
Gee I think she just meant more about the complaint of 11pm on a Saturday night and the likes of, when this is to be expected. Like she said, obviously if someone is being ridiculously loud then it's understandable but I don't think she meant all noise complaints were petty, you sounded well within your rights to complain in that situation!
@Katie-ci9jw6 жыл бұрын
Disagree, making a noise complaint IS petty. You're at univeristy, don't live in halls if you're going to be a party pooper, or go and live somewhere else that isn't as lively. Try not to take life too seriously, let people party, and take emily advice and buy ear plugs hahahaha
@gd47616 жыл бұрын
Katie it’s not being a party pooper! You’re at university to learn and have fun but primarily to learn, and if you can’t sleep you can’t concentrate in lectures which is what you’re there for. A basic tenancy right is to be able to live in peace. If people want to party that can go to another flat where nobody minds or they can be quiet when returning from the club. They have no rights to disturb basic functions of living

My first year hall block was awful. Probably 5 nights out of 7 they would have a party till midnight. Then go out until 3. Then come back and have a party until 5 when someone would usually call the warden to end the party. And trust me... ear plugs barely made a difference!x

Completely agree that you should make the most of it! Also just want to mention to make sure you make friends with people outside of your flat, with my flat I didn't gel well with them, and if I hadn't had my friends on my course and in the performing arts society, I wouldn't have had such a great time! Another point with the eye mask is that some halls have sensor lights so obviously they come on when theres movement. Ours was broken so it would randomly ping on even when no one was there, we joked there was a ghost haha! But yeah if you sleep lightly an eye mask if a must! I nearly got stuck in halls lift - I've now got a slight fear of the lifts now haha. Such a good, helpful video! :) x

Thanks for the useful infomation emily!! I'm extremely introverted and I'm afraid I will have difficulty making friends even in a full students hall.. and I am thinking about renting a room in a halI.. I just feel like when I'm talking to people I don't have anything to say and then the other get bored easily and they also don't say a lot..and it's a bit weird.. I get anxious a lot and I am not comfortable being around a many people.. I also have difficulty sleeping.. But I am afraid that if I rent a private flat I am gonna feel more lonely.. I don't know.. :( Any advice? Congrats on your 2nd year em xxx
@EmilyRoseFisher6 жыл бұрын
That must be pretty hard for you but also hard for me to give advice as I am pretty much the opposite. Just do what makes you feel comfortable and maybe speak to others that are a little bit shy like yourself. Everyone gets anxious and it is scary in first year when you have to live with strangers, but your confidence will grow! x

I did, because I felt like I should but turns out it's not compulsory. You might want to if you've not got much experience with makeup already, but I could have got away with it considering I have a whole makeup artistry kit anyway. As for brushes, not many people bought them. But you'll need a decent makeup kit with similar items to the MAC one (if you choose not to buy it) and some clean brushes to use on other people. I hope you love the course! And if have Alexia for your lecturer for the makeup unit tell her I said hi! xxx
