that's a nice technique, but I would say that you could use more body language and less whip. I taught my yearling to lunge without the use of the whip. I have only used a whip once so far in lunging and that was to teach her to go faster. Now I don't need it in order to get her to trot. I'm only about a week in on training her at all. I really like how encouraging she is to her horse as well. even if the horse doesn't understand words, she can sense the release in you when you say them.

I really love the way that you show how it really is, it’s not always an easy and simple task and it’s very messy and not always perfect, especially during the things like training. This is such an informative and well put together video

I love this video! I love all your videos, really :) I adopted a wild yearling just over a month ago to save her from the slaughter pipeline, and have gotten her to a really great place with leading, backing, catching her, so I am ready to move onto ground work. I'm so glad you have such awesome, gentle yet firm techniques that I feel comfortable using, and speak to a horse's natural thought process. I can't get behind a lot of the harsher trainers, so I am very thankful to have access to your videos for help! I also used them with my 18 year old broodmare who was just started under saddle last year and they've helped tremendously. Thank you!

I love your videos Missy! Thank you for breaking it down so I can apply these techniques. I waited my whole life to own a horse and I bought a "well trained trail horse" in November. Turned out she has been in a pasture with her herd for 10 yrs with little handling. I am moving her in 5 days to a better location that has the proper training facilities since I am starting from scratch. (I'm not a trainer but I will do whatever it takes to learn). I found my own personal style is aligned with yours-I've tried to use DUH and it didn't feel right. It was like punishing her for not knowing what was expected. After 4 months my girl greets me at the gate and walks with me w/o a lead, follows me around and is so eager to learn. She looks a lot like Tillee (Belgian Cross) and the bond we have is magical. I am so excited to see what the future holds for us. I will be sticking with your techniques going forward. It was not easy to weed through the dozens of trainers (all of them are the best). When you recently mentioned in another video to follow your gut, I knew I was on the right path. Thank you again. -Denise & Pumpkin, Guelph, ON CAN.

Missy Wryn Thanks so much! I can’t wait to update you on her progress in the future. I can’t thank you enough for your videos! One quick question. I just bought a rope halter/lead & stick from Clinton Anderson and I love it. Then I saw your bitless bridle and of course wish I had purchased it instead. Could I use your detachable reins on the halter I bought? (I’m not returning it, it was a nightmare dealing with UPS).

@MissyWrynHolisticHorseTrainer 6 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your latest message, so kind :) As for the reins I don't know how or where you can attach them to Clinton's halter since I don't believe it has side-pull loops; perhaps I'm misunderstanding the question?

Missy Wryn Thanks Missy! You understood my question :) It doesn’t have side-pull loops-only 4 knots over the muzzle. I will be investing in a bitless bridle ASAP. This horse is costing me a fortune😂

I have no real experience with horses other than riding them a few times. Based on watching KZbin videos, I think you may have been able to get her to move to your left more easily with a flag extended more toward her rear quarter. (behind the drive line) She was mostly responding by backing up. as you moved forward into her.

Great video :) teaching my dog to lunge as I'm not the most athletic and planning to move soon where she cannot be off leash to run as she loves to just to get that extra exercise before/after a walk. I had to start by walking with her, eventually lengthening the lead as we circle and she's been getting the hang of it just by giving a small tug of the collar on the line and her command to come along or "go". Might switch to a head collar to see if it becomes easier than a flat neck collar because I have to keep tension on the line and I'm feeling more resistance than cooperation lol

@MissyWrynHolisticHorseTrainer

I recommend watching my Training the Whole Horse DVD series from the beginning which teaches you how to establish yourself as your horse's herd leader. Horse's are genetically wired to require a herd leader at all times, and until your horse recognizes you as its herd leader it will continue to be YOUR herd leader which is dangerous. You can watch the entire Training the Whole Horse series FREE kzbin.info/www/bejne/aIPCeKptd7Zoeqs.

This is a great way to teach lunging but it won’t work my my youngster as before I got him he was beaten with a lunge whip until he was forced to jump a 5 bar gate onto concrete to get away so now anytime he sees a lunge whip he will freak and run, no way of stopping him until you drop the whip. So tapping him on the shoulder would freak him out. We’ve tried lunging him before and he yanks away and stands in the corner of the arena shaking where he’s just so scared of what his old owners/breeders did to him 💔

@MissyWrynHolisticHorseTrainer
@MissyWrynHolisticHorseTrainer 5 жыл бұрын
I start horses under saddle no younger than the age of 3 and NO advanced training until 5 years of age. I prefer liberty training with horses under 3 years of age so they get the idea of following cues, but avoiding repetitive movements such as circling that could strain and damage young growing muscles, tissues and bones. Hope this helps.

Zuri, actually a paint is a paint because one or both of its parents were genetically paints. It is possible for it to exhibit no pattern at all. A PINTO has the white and colored body. So when Missy Wryn says "clyde/paint" she means one parent was clyde and the other a paint (thoroughbred, quarter horse, or paint in its bloodlines) or "shire/paint" she means one parent was shire and the other a (genetic) paint. Whatever she is she IS beautiful.

Whenever I lunge my horse she will luge for a few circles and then stop and look at me. What do I do?

+HeyItsPaxton Official at the point where you know she's going to stop (anticipate and usually you'll notice a certain spot that she likes to stop) up your pressure to keep her going - don't allow her to drop her energy. Remember you need to control her feet to prove you are her herd leader. Hope this help.

This happened to me, the reason why is she’ll stop when you look at her eyes. You have to look at her rump to keep her moving.

my horse doesn't respond to this unfortunately. I've tried another technique from another trainer online which seemed to work in getting him to move outwards and away from me, but has made it difficult to have him go further than a semi circle without stopping to face me and extend outwards on a long line.

I like the technique but maybe use more body language to turn her and a bit less wip. Well I would still use the wip but I wouldn't hit her with it but I would swing it as an encouragement of movement and not a smack.

Adilyn Rotole she DIDNT hit her horse with the whip, some horses don’t respond well to voice commands and a whip is needed sometime

I know I have watched your videos before and I really like your methods which is why I subscribed to you. I wanted to refresh on them so I could apply your training on my 3 year old QH. I am sad I can't
