I agree with 1042Adam, In my home state of Virginia, Radar Sets are calibrated by Certified Police Officers at the beginning of their tour of duty. Those tuning forks are used in the calibration of the radar set. The tuning forks found in this Chevrolet Caprice PPV (Police Pursuit Vehicle) should have been removed prior to the vehicle being wholesaled at auction. Oops, somebody screwed up!

Those tuning forks are for calibrating the radar. The smaller tuning fork will have a higher tone somewhere around 5800Hz and the larger one will have a lower tone, somewhere around 3200Hz.

@@hullinger You know Chris, Pontiac was on the verge of importing the Ute, before their demise that came from the 2008 financial crisis. That would have been soooo very cool indeed. Chevrolet could have reborn the El Camino...but I never actually heard of any Chevrolet plans for doing this. I was really good friends with a factory Pontiac District Service Manager back during that time that used to tell me all sorts of behind-the-scenes plans. Unfortunately, those plans never were able to see the light of day. It would have been really neat though my friend... indeed !!! Super awesome job on your PPV videos Chris...KUDOS to you !!!

I had a Impala police package with the 3.9 I purchased for $1900 with 115000 miles well the check engine light was on had a miss fire .someone cut the dod wire I got one of those range plugins and it fixed the problem I daily drove the car for years I just sold it last year and it’s still on the road with no issues thanks to that range plugin

I love that car, I took the 6l version from Hertz for two weeks in Aus and found it to be comparable to the likes of Audi A8 or BMW 7 series. Driving gently, the car did 34mpg (UK) which was impressive. I would buy one in a heartbeat if available in my home market - certainly at the price you paid.

The tuning forks are for some of the old speed guns. They are used to calibrate the gun. Different frequencies for different speeds.

I'm a self confessed Delaware auction-holic ....started with a 2009 Impala PPV from DE. Seemed to have kick , but I needed more..found 2012 Caprice 6.0 at an earlier auction from DE. $5200 ..Had to put some money into car..nothing major. Recently decided to add performance cam, headers, exhaust, air intake and tuning. Prior to all work the car just wanted to run...awesome power. All amped up work should be down by mid May..can't wait!! SLEEPER!! cam will have ability for adding of supercharger...gotta save for that 1..BTW..just with an air intake..car develops an awesome growl

Sooo close! The tuning forks - those are for checking the calibration of speed detection equipment (radar). They always told us to check the radar before shift with those... for the guys that were radar certified. If you pull that monster antenna off the back, I'd love to add that to my collection - LOL That is an amazing car, and you got it for a great price. Well done!

AH yes, the Holden Caprice!!!!!! God, we miss our Aussie made cars. But now GM is treating all Holden dealers like shit after shafting Holden with its total closure. Anyway if you had of got our 100% Statesman & Caprice models with all the good stuff plus the Holden Special Vehicle HSV version, you would have really enjoyed them. HSV version had magnetic ride control suspension, heaps more grunt (HP), brilliant ride and handling, great infotainment system and an awesome Exhaust note. But no more now they killed off our iconic brand. Enjoy.

It's ashame these Caprices didn't make their way to Canada. They're pretty amazing cars. As for insurance, I use Geico and with a $500 deductible I'm paying $480 every six months. So about $960 for the year. Funny thing though, the VIN however confuses Geico as these were never sold to the public so I had to speak with an agent first to get it insured.

The only reason I can think of is because the Dodge Charger and Charger Pursuit is made here in Brampton, Ontario. But Chevy probably didn’t think Canada was a big enough market... I’m tempted to buy one of these and bring it here and see if it would be a nightmare to get everything legit. Lol

The tuning forks are to test the speed radar they hit it and make it vibrate and put it in front of the radar and it should show up Either 40 MPH or 25 MPH thats how they make sure that the radars are working properly! :)

They are radar calibration check forks. They should say what frequency range they are. Example X, K, KA ETC... You check both individually in stationary mode. Then place the unit in moving mode, strike both forks and you should get the radar to read as if your moving and calculating the speed correctly. 1 MPH out of what is stamped on them you are okay. Any further out then the radar unit needs to come out for service. Also make sure there are no nicks or chips in the forks or the frequency changes. We test ours at the beginning and end of every shift. Some departments check their units at the beginning of the shift and after every speeding ticket they write. They should even have a serial number on them that corresponds with the radar unit they are from. Also on a side note in OHIO you write the ticket for what speed you observed and then confirmed with the radar unit. You have to visually estimate it before you confirm your estimate. I know it sounds crazy but that's how the law is written. And yes before anyone on here gives me crap I am a law enforcement officer in Ohio and I am a certified instructor for the State of Ohio to teach and instruct this subject matter. Disclaimer that your state will have similar laws to Ohio but not exact. I am still amazed after many years of doing this how different states are from each other.

its not a Chevy its a Holden built in Australia. It's a Holden Commodore Caprice. they came with ether the 3.8 Buick derived v6 or 3.6 ecoteh v6 or the 5.7 or 6.2 Chevy based v8 the body is loosely based on an Opel.

Wow, you are so 100% wrong, not even close to being correct. He said it was made in Australia and imported to the USA as a Caprice PPV. BTW I have owned a 2011 Chevy Caprice V8 6.0L L77 for 7 years here in Texas USA. It is a Holden Caprice or Statesman in Australia, it was imported to the USA as a Chevrolet Caprice PPV from 2011 to 2017 with either the 3.6L V6 or the 6.0L V8. They NEVER had any other engine and the first run of 2011 Caprice PPV here in the USA were all 6.0L V8. The Chevy Caprice NEVER had a 6.2L engine, ever in the USA. The 2014 to 2017 Chevrolet SS is the Holden Commodore import here in the USA that had the 6.2L V8 and was not the same body as the Caprice or G8.

i do have one and they are nice its my daily drive has been for almost 4 years now. my car had around 12k miles and 848 idle hours and it was 3 years it was with some police commissioner or fbi agent i could never get a straight answer rom the dealer . they got rid of it for something new my car was at a dealership not an auction it still had the police lights, bull bar, radio and walkey and a shotgun or rifle mount. all but the mount, radio and 2 lights that was still mounted on the car at the time, the was in the trunk.

@@hullinger i did get lucky on the miles it was some commissioner car so it wasnt used like a patrol car i put more miles on it in 1 year then he did in 3 but thats fine when i buy something i use it. i recommend it to everyone looking for a car you have to look for websites that only sell police cars and you can find the low miles one there interceptor king one ive seen everything on that site 10k miles tahoe ssv and chargers with 20k miles. the good stuff not in the auctions its at a dealer

I think Australia--Holden-- is more interested in horsepower then GM in the US is. American GM puts all their effort and resources into the Corvette, which is great for the Vette guys, but what about us non Vette guys? Another reason why I LOVE the Caprice.

It's a Statesman (Caprice) body but with a more basic specification and police-friendly modifications. Making it a police-spec Commodore with extra room in the rear seat, in a way, rather than the luxo-barge that was sold in Oz.

The keys with the Chevy logo on the back are the keys that didn't get done when the car the got recall done. For the key that doesn’t turn the car on, try reprogramming it through the dash. I believe there’s a video on it.

Kinda. I believe that one he has is more like the Pontiac G8 on the inside: a generation older then the Chevy SS. In australia they are the long-wheel-base version of the commodore and come with full luxury interior and spec. For the ones sold to the US they took all the luxury away and made them more practical for police work.

Hey buddy, nice to hear from you. One of those extra keys will lock and unlock the doors and will turn in the ignition too, but won't start the car. The other extra key won't do anything. I'm betting it goes to one of the other 5 Caprices from that auction. As for auction buying, I guess it's been maybe 3 years now. Started out buying lawn mowers, then Crown Vic's and now anything that's interesting and fun.

Yeah, I find mechanical parts are easy peasy to get for the Caprice. Body parts are not cheap but can be gotten after a long wait. Sometimes used parts like good used fenders, headlights and such turn up on eBay.

I would like to get one but the thing that worries me is parts, especially in Europe... I daily drive a 2000 Grand Marquis and a 91 Caprice and parts for those are easily available but these never Caprices were not produced in that great numbers.
