Right after I moved to the DC area, I took a job near a Five Guys. Not knowing what I was getting into, I ordered a cheeseburger, a hot dog, and a regular fries. That was more than 20 years ago, and I'm still working my way through it! Where I live now has both In-N-Out and Five Guys. I have a fondness for In-N-Out, being from Southern California, but I'm happy to settle for a Five Guys burger any day of the week. Great stuff!

I have been going to Five Guys since the 1990s and it is my favorite restaurant. Originally mine had fresh brewed Red Diamond sweet tea that was the perfect complement to their burgers, but they quit serving it because it was probably too much work. Five Guys also used to have decent older style coke dispensers but now they have fancy ones that have a million flavors. Unfortunately, the Coke tastes uniformly awful and I can't drink it. So now I just bring a water bottle when I go there because Five Guys no longer sells a beverage worth drinking. For a restaurant that touts its food quality, it is an amazing failure. My biggest recommendation is there is a HUGE difference between Five Guys locations. Five Guys isn't cheap so you don't want to come away feeling ripped off and disappointed. If the Five Guys you are going to makes you a good meal then go back. But if the Five Guys overcooks your burgers to small dried out tough black postage stamps or gives you a small handful of fries, then go to a different Five Guys because if you don't it is going to continue to happen. Once a Five Guys goes downhill it is gone. There is no corrective process.

The toppings are free if you order a double cheeseburger you pay the same price as you would for a double cheeseburger with Lettuce, Tomato, onion, pickles, fried onions, mushrooms, all the sauces, etc. Only topping that costs extra is bacon.

The well done burger has nothing to do with food safety. The Murrell family is just a stickler for making well done burgers almost like an unofficial trademark. Another interesting note is that 5 Guys will never offer promotions, discounts, or coupons because they feel their product is good enough to be purchased at full price every time.

Actually, when you compute the cost per ounce of just the meat you get with your burger, Five Guys is cheaper per ounce of beef than McDonalds. The McDonald's Big Mac has two patties but each of those patties only weighs 1.2 ounces before cooking. So, you are only getting 2.4 ounces of meat in a Big Mac. It's the same pattie they put in their standard burger. What you end up paying for is lots of bread.

Let’s get real tho: the bacon they put on the burger isn’t a bacon SLICE; it’s chopped bacon. You can say extra bacon, sure. Just don’t expect seven to eight glorious slices of bacon. My go to is the Bacon Cheeseburger, add a patty, with extra pickles, mayo, bbq sauce, grilled onions and yep, extra bacon! Fries and a coke, two sides of mayo for my fries! I love Five Guys!

1. Be creative, there are tons of different combos even excluding the secret menu! 2. Take advantage of the secret menu (especially the grilled cheeseburger!) 3. Not all locations have milkshakes. 4. There's no extra cost for asking for extra cheese or bacon.

I work at five guys, and we do put the cheese on the burger while on the grill. We always make sure its melted, and if it doesn't get melted on the grill, when it gets wrapped the heat of the burger will definitely melt it.

I went to one about a few days ago and it was $30 for lunch for just 2 of us. Since I knew that they give extra fries (thank u youtube!), just 1 serving of fries was ok. However, this is the 1st time ever that I've seen ALL the flavors in the Coco cola machine available! In every fast food place that I've been in, they generally have just about 12 flavors.

ummm you realize almost every fast food if you get a combo meal supersized you are paying between 12 and 15 dollars. so 30 dollars for 2 falls right in line. umm fast food is not cheap anbymore. and not fast most of the time. at least you are getting your moneys worth in FF's. ummm Hardees/Carls JR, and mcdonalds if you get the large cobo you are paying 12 to 15 dollars but with them their fries come in a narrow pinched box which amounts to about a small maybe a medium fry.

Maybe it's just my local Five Guys, but for the service (always SLOWWWW) and quality it's not worth the money. My wife and I can very easily spend $30 and stand there waiting for a good 15 minutes, I could cook the burger faster than that at home, literally. The quality is great, but it's not $9 a burger great. If my wife wants Five Guys it better be tax return time or something.

Are they very expensive? Yes. Is the overhead on fresh food and in-house cut potatoes higher than frozen and premade stuff? Also yes.
