"One way is not the only way." AGREED. Your locs are stunning, 🌱💜 Every set I've done has been palm rolled. I️ always recommend it. Also palm rolling in the direction that your hair naturally curls is the quickest way for your hair to loc.

Man 😭 the first time I had someone else retwist my locs they used wax too and I HATED it. While it looked nice my hair felt weird and I made the mistake of just going with it since the person was a "pro". Once I stopped going to them my hair really started to flourish. Eliminated those thick, heavy products and my locs have been so much better. Looking back I do kinda regret letting them do that but I was able to save my hair before too much damage was done

I'm ten months in started my own. I learned to stop using products like I did as a loose natural. I have learned so much including literally just mist my hair with a solution mix of tea tree essential oil and distilled water with a 360 mister. A few drops of tea tree essential oil not only smells great but has antibacterial properties. About every three or four days or as needed, I just spray them with a mixture of tea tree oil distilled water and a little bit of grape seed oil all mixed together in a standard trigger spray bottle. Grape seed oil I get from the food store which is the same grapeseed oil I use to cook. It's really really light. That's it. Your scalp oils itself. When I first locked my hair I had a routine of oiling my scalp every 3 days with Meille oil and Jamaica black castor oil and couldn't understand why the day after I had terrible itching and seborrheic dermatitis which I had never had as a loose natural. Prior to that I had seen several videos of black women telling us not to use oils on our scalp and that seemed absolutely ridiculous to me. If you don't use oil on your hair and scalp it will be dry. Well I now know that oil moisturizing our hair is a fallacy. Like I said your scalp oils itself so do not add oil to your scalp. My locks are flourishing. I agree with literally everything you said except, and this is a big one, please, please black women do not go outside with that bonnet on. When I see it on others I want to crawl under the table with embarrassment. You may not care what others think of you but it's a reflection of us all so please just be courteous. Hop on Amazon and for $20 you can get one of those nylon lightweight hair bonnets that you attach to your hair dryer and it works perfectly.

I agree with letting your hair just breathe and putting little water and oil here and there and just letting it loc! Thanks for video. Hope you do more. Your hair is beautiful and thick 😍😍

Yes lock smithing. I comb twist then loc smith to keep it neat and in place. It's the only method that works for my hair.

Great video! I recently (3.5 weeks ago) decided to see how my hair responded with no added oil. Within 6 days I noticed my scalp produced sebum. I massage the scalp with the balls of my fingers and the sebum is distributed. I have added a little peppermint oil and lavender oil by applying some to my palms and massaging through my locs. This really amazed me. I separate my locs daily. I’m trying to see how long I can go between re twist or retie.

I’m Very Late here, but the rolling method that you said your sister used is called ROPE TWISTING. Loc smithing is GOOD for the locs, rope twists is when both sections of the two strand twists are rolled separately like a rope. It’s the same method used for Senegalese twists. Yes, I saw that rope twists aren’t recommended for locs because of exactly what you said @Anne Pierre as well as it can cause both sections to separate and loc in their own. 💛

It’s normal for the ends to loc slower than the rest of your hair. That’s usually how it goes.

I think the method your sister did is called "Locsmithing." I think this method is used more for those with mature locs.

I've long used shampoo and conditioner since day 1( started as an experiment). Retwist with water only no oil. My hair looks strong and shiny. And I wash often bc I workout

Hey doll. Your sister rope twisted your hair! That’s how my mom use to do my hair when I was younger. So the two strands of the twist are tightly packed so it can look sleek but I understand why that wouldn’t be beneficial for locs.
