What is your withdrawl rate? And did you earn in india and retire in thailand or you earn there itself?
@TheFIREdCouple3 ай бұрын
Our withdrawal rate is below 3%. We earned in India as well as in other countries. No earnings here in Thailand.

Hi Yogi sir, Your channel is pure gold and hands down the best on this topic. I wish you both the best. I am FE but not RE ( social pressure, like the job to some extent). I wanted to do the bare minimum at work. But finding it difficult to implement because 1. You always want to give your best even if you are not in the rat race. 2. My manager values me. 3. A lot of politics at my workspace. So you go the extra mile to fight these politicians and prove a point. Could you give some advice on how to handle it? (In one of the videos, you mentioned you were very comfortable (saying no etc) handing this. But I think its easier said than done. Thanks in advance

Hi Gautham, glad you like the channel and find the content good. Yes, saying 'No' is quite difficult thing to do in career, in fact, also in life. A lot of factors have to be in play to manage that (... also the office politics): 1. Self confidence 2. Art of persuasion 3. Personality / own branding at workplace 4. Quality (not quantity) of work 5. ... and the art of not giving a f*ck Maybe I should cover these topics in a video. What do you think?

@@TheFIREdCouple Thanks a lot Yogi sir for the prompt response. Appreciate. Yes. a video on this would be of great help. Btw nice points there. The first 4 are fine. But on the 5th, people may say, attitude/arrogant etc. Also, another mental block in RE ( this is totally completely from the one being discussed above) when the major portion ( say > 60 %) of net worth is in equity. ( whether its thru direct equity or mutual funds/ets) is that there is no sense of ownership/accomplishment. And the net worth will change every second and even a small % change can affect your mood. ( I know we wont monitor it that frequently. But today, we cant be a complete passive investor either). In most of the cases, we know that a stock we hold is overvalued based on fundamentals/earnings. How does one handle it? It would be great if you could cover this too in some other video.

On the 5th point, it is important to find or develop some of those trusted relationships where one can share not just financial aspects but get peer advice on other issues. That outside-in perspective can do wonders. This been an important element for our professional, financial and personal growth. The 'sense of ownership' is like the 'sense of purpose' that the corporate and the consumer world has inflicted upon us. The diamond industry just thrives by selling this idea that love, marriage proposals, anniversaries can only be expressed in diamonds ... and we buy this story! The same goes with the sense of ownership towards investments. For example, there is no difference between equity, gold or real estate investment. 1. We are the actual owners of these. 2. The ownership title / deed can be a physical document or a virtual holding 3. The prices of each of these investment assets change and not fully in our control 4. The asset - be it gold, RE, equity etc - can be over or under valued. So be careful in falling into this trap :-)

@@TheFIREdCouple Thanks a ton Yogi sir for such a detailed response. Its very useful. I get what you are saying. (One difference is that the other assets like RE are not traded and the value is just an estimate. But in equity, since its public, the mark to market value can change very rapidly. Of course, I dont like RE ( other the the primary house to live in) as an investment since its such a boring instrument). Anyways, I have become a huge fan of you. I think these days, here are quite a few other people who preach FIRE. They give the usual boring gnan. But trust me, your content is very unique and I consider it the best. Keep inspiring us with your knowledge and learnings.

How does it matter if you take medical insurance at 50 vs 25 since premium get increased anyway in every 5 year period. You’ll be paying same premium at 50 years either way . Only advantage would be cover for existing dieseases.
@TheFIREdCouple3 ай бұрын
Yes, the main purpose is about preconditions more than the premiums. Something like an early stage cancer (that has been treated and long gone) can make it impossible to get any health insurance in future.

I had the exact same query, and talking to the guys at Ditto (not promoting them, just their happy customer) gave me some answers. By the time we retire, some or the other lifestyle disease would have started rearing its ugly head, so taking private (retail) insurance at that point will be difficult. Given the existing illness, the underwriter can add a hefty loading to the premium to give cover, or worse they may even refuse to provide cover. Taking insurance early on would solve these issues, at the cost of more premiums paid along the way. One more advantage is that most of the NCBs would have kicked in by the time of retirement, so that's another added bonus.

@@sansjunk Thanks. Yes the 'No Claim Bonus' is an added bonus to this

Cost of living increasing 10 times every 20yrs for the working class in India This means if per month house expense is Rs40,000 in 2023 for the average middle class population, it might go upto Rs4lacs per month in 2043 to be an average middle class family in 2043 Monetary inflation causing 4 times increase in cost of living in 20yrs. Rest is caused by Lifestyle inflation Salary increment every 3yrs adjusts to monetary inflation and Promotion in Job every 5yrs adjusts to Lifestyle Inflation during one's career Investment during one's career to start pension from the age of 50-55yrs till Death must keep in mind the above factors while calculating pension amount One can backtest this data on middle class salaries
