Hey guys,
Today's video is for host families or exchange students who want to look at their exchange year from the opposite perspective. I studied abroad in the United States of America a few years ago and have also been part of a host family back in Germany so I know both sides of this unique relationship. In today's video, I will give tips to future host families on how to treat their exchange student and mistakes they should definitely avoid making when taking a foreign kid into their hearts and homes.
I hope you enjoy!
As always, lot of love,
Laura

I'm right now in a host family in the US. In my case, I'm an exchange teacher, not student. I really see now how important it is to treat everyone the same. My host family has had many exchange teachers. They keep talking about some of them. And they seemed to have had fun. But we barely do things together. That makes me feel akward

Guten Tag Laura!! So Laura...could you do a video where you explain at length HOW MUCH of Texas and the REST of the US you saw when you were here? I think you mentioned once that you made it to Florida. So did you make it to the Gulf of Mexico and Swim in the Ocean?, Did you cross over into either Oklahoma or into any other states that are neighbors of Texas? Did you happen to cross into the Country of Mexico?? Please elaborate if you have time in another video!! Tschuess!

When is a typical time for students to come to the United States? Our school district does a pretty involved marching band camp in the middle of the summer, that if they were an instrumentalist they would probably not want to miss. So instead of coming in August right before school starts, they would want to come at the beginning of July. Is that a common thing for them to do?

Unfortunately, students often come too late for any summer prep. I also missed all of the volleyball 2-a-days. When the student finds their host family early on, something might be arranged. It also depends on when school starts in your district. Most exchange students will arrive some time in August. I think I arrived on the 14th and that's pretty usual.
