You get saved by trusting/believing/depending on Jesus alone, that what he accomplished through his death burial and resurrection was enough on its own to save you. If you believe he saved you by doing THAT alone, you recieve eternal life. Nothing added, not the eucharist, not mass, not baptism, not praying to Mary or the saints (which is idolatry anyway) none of it, just Jesus. "He that BELIEVETH on the son hath EVERLASTING LIFE" Ephesians 1:13-14 "In HIM you also TRUSTED, after you HEARD THE WORD of TRUTH, the GOSPEL of your salvation, in whom also, HAVING BELIEVED, you were SEALED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT OF PROMISE, WHO is the GUARANTEE of OUR INHERITANCE UNTIL THE REDEMPTION of the PURCHASED POSSESSION, to the praise of His glory" involving works with salvation makes no sense biblically because not only does it say we are saved by grace which is non meritorious (eliminating works) but it also says directly after you BELIEVE, you've been sealed (guaranteed) until the redemption of the purchased possession. That last verse is a definitive statement that can't be made if salvation came down to you. If it came down to something you did it would read this way "after you believed you were sealed with the Holy spirit whom guarantees nothing and which you can lose if you don't stay faithful. If you percevere in doing well you will be redeemed at the very end and the lord will come get you." See the difference? One is definitive and one comes down to you.

Beautiful message! I want my kids to not fear God but adore him! Have God be a reflection on their face as friends approach them for help! The youth is so focused on other things, that I pray God helps me guide my kids in the right direction, full of faith and love towards our Lord!!

A sin is a blatant disregard for what is right. Even if you do not know the Bible the Bible says in Romans 1 the inwardly our conscience bears witness of God and what is right and what is wrong. We all make mistakes which are errors. To not know how to ride a bike and to fall down is a mistake. To speak out of turn but apologize... is a mistake. A sin and an error are not the same.

This is VERY confusing. There are two types of sin, Venial and Mortal. A mistake could be venial, making it bare no weight. Versus Mortal, where we are WILLING to do a mistake. So, wouldn’t all mistakes be venial?

I have a question. I was visiting my aunt, who was turning one hundred years old, out in the flatlands of kansas. My cousin was going to accompany me to mass that Sunday. However, he is not a regular church goer any longer, to the sorrow of his mother. She can't attend any longer and I think that's when he stopped going. My own brother, who was with me, wasn't going to mass that morning either. He only attends on Christmas Eve. My question is, I allowed them both off the hook and went by myself while they went to coffee. So, is this a sin that I need to confess? Does this fall under "I am my brother's keeper," and I should have kept him on the straight, narrow path.

No. Leave it be. You are not your brothers keeper. They have made their peace with God. That's their business, not yours.

It doesn't sound like you let them off the hook. It doesn't sound like you were in a position to let them off the hook, or force them to go. It's good to recognize where God is placing you. God is the one who is going to convert their hearts, He's in control of the plan, and He put you in just the right position. He's being patient and merciful, like how the prodigal son's dad handed over his sons inheritance when he demanded it. He's very gentle. He wants them to freely choose Him, no matter how long it takes. I think He was calling you to imitate His gentleness and be the quiet example, pray for them to see your example and open their hearts, and wait and be ready to embrace them and celebrate when they come home. I think that it wouldn't be this big fight in your heart if God actually wanted you to try to MAKE your family members go. I mean you clearly want God to win the fight in your heart. God is definitely strong enough to win haha. So maybe He wants you to surrender, realize He won, you did just what He intended, even though you are so little and limited, and trust that God loves your family even more than you do, and let God's love and mercy and peace into your heart.

Where are you getting your moral theology. It seems to be a bit askew. Some sins are not accidents but also not so formally thought out as to acknowledge it is against God's will and intentionally doing it anyway. This is one of the conditions of mortal sin but it is not necessarily projected to the definition of all sin. A sin is a willful act that is contrary to God's will, but it can be an act that will be thought of later as realizing it was against God's will. This is not an accident, but, although it is a willful act, it is also not an intentional act willed against God's will. I guess when you are giving spiritual direction to parents and kids you can't really be this complex. However as one knowledgable of moral theology to another intelligent adult, I'm simply asking you to consider this complexity. Maybe then you can distill it down to the spiritual direction you have been called to do.
