@@thebigpicture2032 I think I understand what you mean. A good friend of mine finally got his 10K Lift after he finally added another 2-bay shop next to his original 2 bay shop. He's in his early 40's. Been turning wrenches since he was a teenager...always dreamed of having a 4 bay shop with a lift. Now that he got the 4 bays and a nice lift it changed the way he does things...he was so used to NOT having a lift for all those years, and all that time it was making him push hard to reach that goal...now that he reached the goal he lost the "push" or the "drive" and along with it he lost interest in continuing to turn wrenches for a lot of reasons...burned out mostly. Over the years he's had an employee who he could trust to do complicated jobs so he could wear all the other hats running the shop which took-up most of his time. His employee just inherited some cash and is going to move away, leaving him stranded in a 4 bay shop with nobody to help. Now that he has a 4 bay shop and a nice lift his business has picked up and will be stuck doing it all by himself. He said these days you can't get a good mechanic who knows enough to be left alone because they are all either making 2-3 times the money or they have their own business. He's hired lots of "mechanics" over the years only to be left fixing the crap they left behind after he had to fire them. Doing something you love to do turns into doing something you hate once you get to a point of being too big to handle. a good "hobby" can turn into a nightmare. some people can handle it others can't. Do you want to wake up excited about your day or wake up dreading your day? He hardly ever uses the lift but when he does it saves him a ton of time and work...but that was what kept him "pushing"...the extra hard work without a lift. In DD's case, a lift means he reached a goal, but my guess is, it will change a lot of things mentally...because IMO what DD is doing is a "cool hobby" and getting a lift could cause it to become a burden. I know I'm not making much sense and couldn't put it in words right but when my friend got his lift it changed his whole business for the good and the bad...Bad Chad has a lift...it's outside in the freezing cold and from what I've seen he hardly ever uses it. Edit: Fitzee's doesn't use a lift yet he is happy and loves what he's doing....I'd love to have a lift too so don't get me wrong...just don't make having a lift your holy grail...your feather in your cap...the money it costs for a good lift could make for a great vacation with your family or another 57 chevy project.

Once again you have saved a car from the crusher. Firing up an old 4 door after being parked for years is cool for about 10 minutes, after that it goes back to being an undesirable car which is why it was parked in the first place. But turning it into a 2 door makes it desirable. This one has escaped the inevitable of a 4 door and now will be a coveted hotrod. #respect

you know, i've only known of one other person who attempted to convert a 4 door to 2 door, and you are the only one to do it successfully multiple times. the other person cut the entire body of a '56 chevy in half, and removed a section about a foot wide, then wound up with a permanent seat on the struggle bus trying to recombine the two halves, in fact after years of trying to get things to line up half way decently and failing, he sold it as an unfinished project. your method is so simple and uncomplicated it is a thing of beauty and a mark of genius.

Dan, you just keep on dragging in the budget hot rods. never get tired of conversions. And if you just go flat off the common with it, I dunno, some old buick or olds or something, well, that is even better. This last summer has really made my brakes drag, forcing me to realize that crap, I am one of them older guys now. So, yeah, you are bringing out the old hot rods I was around in the prime. But doing what we really couldn't then when it comes to metal work. And I kind of eat that up. And the deeper the cut, the better the project.
