So agree with styling on damp hair. I always felt leave ins penetrate my hair best when damp vs soaking wet. Also last summer experimenting with wash and go techniques and products, I found my best results were when my hair was damp. I thought I was crazy because this went against all the natural hair advice. I’m learning to just listen to my hair.🤷🏽♀️

The Aussie moist gave my hair moisture overload. My hair became mushy, stretchy, it took almost three days to dry, and it made my scalp super itchy. It's definitely not a conditioner you can use often. I only use it if my hair has been out in the sun all day or I've had my hair flat ironed for a while- basically for emergencies when my hair is too dehydrated.

So glad I found your page. I've been natural for 8 years now and I didn't even know what porosity was, let alone me having low porosity. I just thought I'd have to suffer with styles that got frizzy after a day for the rest of my life. And maybe now I can let it grow out instead of just cutting it all the time after a certain length. Yes ma’am!!! ALL of this here Cousin!!! I learned ALL of these the hard way...trial and error. I had to stop doing my wash n go’s on soaking wet hair cuz 1-2 days of dry time honey ain’t nobody got time for that! And the heavy products too. When I first did my Big Chop I mainly used Shea Moisture products and one of my “holy grail” products at the time was the Coconut & Hibiscus Curl Enhancing Smoothie. My hair never stayed moisturized. I was at the beginning of my journey and didn’t know any better.

Kami Koils I agree! It took me a lot of trial and error to learn my hair and honestly I’m always still learning because my hair changes over the years! 1 tip I've learned is to spritz water just water (soft water) in between my blow drying brush chasing method sessions. It has made my hair very manageable even when there is no water in it. ☺️ I don't like lots of products. I just use shea butter and olive oil. 👌🏾

Love this!! Over the past few months, I've loved reverting back to the basics, but elevating them-- replacing water with an aloe/glycerin mix; sticking with a trusty thinner cream/thicker cream combo & layering them; and using penetrating ayurvedic oils, like a fenugreek-infused grapeseed/avocado mix. Also, recognizing that I and many others have low-po shafts but hi-po *ends*. So sealing the shaft with oils, but the ends with shea butter, is what keeps the entirety of my hair moist the longest. Lol this was long but I hope it helps somebody 😭 P.S. great tips and beautiful video, thank you!! 🙌🏽 you dropped this 👑

I just recently found out I have low porosity hair and I totally agree with styling with damp versus soaking wet hair. I used to do that back in the day, then I had started with the soaking since so many ppl were saying how great their hair was but I didn't see it when I tried it several times. So last time I washed I styled with mousse (which I also found out works good with low porosity hair) and my curls were definitely tighter and more defined. And they lasted longer. Still learning what's working for me but love this video, very informative.

I always considered myself a low porosity girl cause my hair didn't stay moisturized while using shea moisture products but I guess I have normal hair and just needed a better product. Ever since I switched to camille rose naturals my hair has been thriving since I started styling in the shower, wash n go's, braid out, etc. And I've been retaining moisture and length surprisingly. However, I definitely have to take a stroll outside for the lovely florida sun to dry it nicely, soaking wet or damp, my hair takes about 2 seasons of The Walking Dead to dry🤣🤣 love you cousin!! Keep up the quality content

Your video is on point! I have noticed that my hair is low to normal porosity from the crown back and low porosity from the crown forward. I have two different techniques to apply products for those sections. The back works great with soaking wet hair but the front needs to be damp and shingled to style. I add a little water as needed to help products penetrate and move down the shaft. It took a few months of being natural and learning my hair to recognize one technique would not work for my entire head. Thanks for the video cousin. Much appreciated as always! ❤🙂

I have low porosity hair. I make my own flaxseed gel. I use rice water every other week ( 5 days, no product, I braid it at night, take it out during the day and I do onion treatments 2x/mo. ) I have a water filter shower head ( made all the difference in the world because I believe that water quality is a huge part of our hair health! ) and sundays are my wash days. Grapeseed and Argan oil is what I use ( very lightly. Just enough to coat my hands, a half of a pea size each, or sometimes I'll just use one oil. You'll have to judge for yourself. ) I dont use silk scarves, they're a pain in the a*s, I have a silk pillow case instead. I dont work with my hair when its wet, only slightly damp. I dont use any heat of any kind on my hair UNLESS it's a special occasion, or MAYBE once or twice/yr. My hair is thin as far as my strands ( mom is white, dad is black ), but I have a LOT of hair. It would be considered 4c, MAYBE 3c. Hope this helps my fellow sisters on their natural hair journey! Shalom!

Hey Cuz, I'm feeling you on the wet hair, I learn real quick my low porosity hair do not like to be soak and wet, even if the product suggests it, I don't do it. I have a hair check after wash day. How moisturize, soft, smooth, shiney and bouncy it is daily to see how well it's retaining moisture being low porosity. I use products that are light in consistency so the greasy level is low.

Many people don't know that there's only so much products/water that your hair can take. If you fill up you hair with water, there's only a limited amount of product that can get in. I know someone that conditions, shampoos and deep conditions so that the dc will be able to soak in to the max. I tried it and it honestly helps so much and my hair is medium porosity. Although, porosity is a gradient so one could be medium but leaning to the low or high side.

Thanks for this video Amber. I thought I was low porosity because of the strand test but my hair didn’t act completely like it was low porosity so I’m thinking that it is a mix of normal and low.?I’ve been watching you videos and though my hair cooperates best with twist outs I’ve taken your advice and stop using heavy products and not using too many. Thanks again 😊
