Absolutely love the honesty! Thank you for a good video.

Thanks for sharing. It's in my Top Ten games for 2024, and while saying that I must state that deck builders are my favorite game genre. I enjoy the use of metals, training, use of cards as metals (as vials), and the mission track. Just me, but I enjoy Mistborn a lot more than Star Realms. The only big downside I think the game has - thinning a deck is huge and it is near impossible to win if you don't get a card that does so.

How do you like it compared to aeons end? Thanks!

As a Magic player, I love the constraints on card play. Most other deckbuilders just have you vomit the whole hand, so there's very little strategy beyond buying/culling cards, and no instant-speed interaction. It also does some really cool things at 3-4 players with the target system so there's a trade-off for damage-focused builds. It's probably my favorite of the "pure" deckbuilders so far, it's the only one that feels like a full game.

Excited to give this a watch. I've had this game since pre order and haven't played yet

question for those who are deck building aficionados if you don’t own any deck building games and you are a Mistborn fan. Is this a good one to get of the deck building genre? Does it have all the basics? Is it mechanically sound? Alex‘s review suggests that it’s pretty standard fare and so I’m hoping that as deck builders go that it would be a fine one to get. That it isn’t broken and going to turn me off the concept of deck building games. Seems to be the case.

The game felt incomplete to me; almost like 1/2 of Dune Imperium.

The fact that you'd recommend Star Realms instead of this game just goes to show how little you understand the deckbuilding genre.

Why don't you explain it?

@MrGreeneyes77 the internet is huge. There are many places where your snippy negative comments are welcome. This isn’t one of them.

Star Realms is kind of a floor for the deckbuilding genre. It's a simple two currency system with obvious combos, but it has extremely fast setup and fast turns, as well as being easy to teach to anyone. Any pure deckbuilder that wants to add teaching time, playtime, and rules complexity on top needs to be sure to introduce a signficant amount of additional strategy or variability as well. Going against a boss cooperatively has never been too fun in these games (Shards of Infinity did it too), and usually when a game comes out both competitive and cooperative the overall systems suffer. I am still looking for a pure deckbuilder that does something new compared to Dominion or Star Realms-style games, but it's valid to recommend those older games for people thinking about a deckbuilder. There's a reason they are still around.
