They kinda brushed it off at the end there, but after you complete the campaign, you can set the character deck up using the black, white and gold numbers on the cards to play the game in a more free form way. You don't have to just replay the campaign to keep playing the game.
@giannisc.5254Ай бұрын
But Chris mentioned this at the end of his gameplay explanation segment (around 6:50 ), was that what you meant ?
@GirruuthАй бұрын
@@giannisc.5254 Yes, he mentioned it existed during the overview, but at the end, when they talked about replay-ability, no one mention it then, as if the only way to replay was to play the campaign again or to select one of the Chapters.

I'd rather see The Two Towers and The Return of the King expansions. Maybe the The Hobbit one too, but the problem there might be the different period in time within the theme, not to mention additional The Hobbit versions of characters that were also in The Lord of the Rings (it would be weird to play free play mode with two Bilbos or two Gandalfs in, or games with Aragorn and Thorin, who were from different time periods).

If only television producers respected the source material as much as the games we've seen.

This sounds like cooperative Hearts with a theme. Even the way the ring cards become available aounds like the way “hearts are broken”. I never knew I needed cooperative hearts!

I was going to buy it already when I learned about a LotR trick taking game last year. Glad to see that expectations were met.
@Trig565Ай бұрын
As someone who actively avoids the LotR movies and has never read the books, this is the only LotR game I’ve played that actually did get me interested in the theme/story. I was impressed by how thematic it felt and was compelled to see the story play out.

I just watched the first movie because of this game and the Duel game. Was curious but never into LOTR
@classicalteacherАй бұрын
Just don't watch the Hobbit trilogy or the Amazon garbage. The original LotR trilogy is great. Not necessarily completely in line with the books, but very entertaining. You need to read Tolkien. Multiple times. I've read them over 8 times now. I bought the book when I was 7 because of the cover of Gullum 40 years ago. Wow. I appreciate what Tolkien has done.
@LeeKenshin7Ай бұрын
Is there something about the LoTR theme that would cause you to actively avoid it? Just curious. I actively avoid Cthulhu theme games because my wife hates horror.
@Trig565Ай бұрын
@@LeeKenshin7 Honestly it’s more about the fervent fandom than the content for me. See: this thread lol.

I... kinda turned off that art on cards is same between same suit. Yeah it IS amazing art, but seeing exactly same mountain on each mountain... IDK. If it will be, for example, like Lost Cities, when one big panorama-art split between cards - that would be awesome. Or just, IDK, zoom into the art or something.
@maxxmittelstadt479822 күн бұрын
You can play with all the characters and cards without having to do a Chapter based scenario.

I have this game. I have it. It's amazing. It's The Crew but lord of the rings. If you like the Crew and you like Lord of the Rings this is a no brainer. I will likely never play the Crew again. I own both, and one is leaving. Ps. They talked about how the Crew was more replayable. There is a setup method after finishing the story that makes it just as replayable (actually more, since there are more available mechanisms) as the Crew 2.
@joewang403Ай бұрын
So, basically The Crew but LOTR themed.
@carltumminello304915 күн бұрын
I picked up the game, but the entire premise seems weird to me. A cooperative trick-taking game seems a contradiction in terms.
@thedicetower15 күн бұрын
It's weird but it comes together really well. You get to use the strategies of winning tricks, sluffing, avoiding, and communicating to a partner, but with everyone on the same team. Hope you enjoy!
@allansetsukiАй бұрын
is it TheCrew with a theme skin? 🤔
@JLReidАй бұрын
No, the only "connection" is that they're both cooperative trick-takers that pull from the same well--must follow, no bidding, etc This is its own design.

So it's a cheap copy of The Crew, but with LotR theme because the suckers will buy anything LotR
@thedicetowerАй бұрын
Oh man, I feel like we clearly made the opposite point in the review! It's more set-up each chapter, but more thematic and thoughtful payoff. So, the opposite of a cheap copy.
@nreekmАй бұрын
@ you did but I found the arguments weak and just don't see how it is not a cheap copy.
@thedicetowerАй бұрын
We didn't want to go into spoilers of the later chapters, but the content past chapter 5 is wild if you get a chance to try it. But, not every game is for every person, so that's fine.
