One thing I like about the default static background is that it is not static: The TV style snow moves around. I wonder if it would be possible to have a sort of screensaver style moving background. Keep up the cool content!

Great content - I'll certainly be doing this with my MiSTer setup. About the static IP thing. It's far far simpler to just leave any device on your network as DHCP and then configure your router to reserve a particular IP address for it so that the router always allocates the same IP every time. That way you never run a risk of a duplicate IP and you can leave MiSTer in standard DHCP mode.

@@NewRetroAdventures Yeah it's great, and really helps the community. I love that about MiSTer (...retro gaming in general really, but MiSTer has an especially dedicated following I feel)! I've built mine out into an Amiga 600 using one of those "Mistress" expansion boards - it's great to use that way and fun to tinker around... not unlike your pi-in-a-megadrive creation!

Thanks for the static ip tip! It was a really small annoying thing since, if you only connect it to a CRT like me, you have to SSH in to run all the scripts and such.

Having same IP all the time is super useful. Don't set a static IP though in MiSTer. Static IPs should have gone extinct with the dinosaurs. Instead use your router to reserve an IP address and your router will then allocated the same IP to your MiSTer every time it joins the network.

The static IP thing is better handled on the router side by setting up a static lease on the DHCP server. That way you won’t lose DHCP connectivity if you connect the Mister to a network with different IP range (at a friend’s house).

Rather than deal with static IP and FTP, I just enable SMB and deal with MiSTer through the OS as a network share. Also on the flip side, I use a share on my NAS for more of my bulk storage, so I don't have to mess with SD storage all that much.

Thanks for another awesome video. Any idea if there are plans for an active background like the default no signal one? I prefer something like this as I have an OLED and Id rather not have a static image if I walk away for a bit.

That’s a really good question. I’d imagine the static is generated in code, but IDK for sure… but even if that’s the case perhaps more could be coded? I too have OLED so appreciate the concern, you can look at Super Attract Mode and customise the start and gameplay time. That will solve the burn-in issue.
