To be fair if you start looking at putting together a mister it's not exactly an impulse buy, and it's pretty obvious to anybody that there are alternatives as its an open source project so don't understand why somebody was criticizing not mentioning alternatives, they never said it was an exclusive or the only option the original video was clear Neil even said shop around and look at the alternative's, IMHO having a board made by an experienced manufacturer with quality components and a free to download printable case can only help the project and make it more popular

@coopercummings83703 жыл бұрын
I don't know your budget, but there are ways to get the mister project going that are cheaper. Several of the cores can run on a bare de-10 nano board with no additional ram or other boards, so to get started you just need the de-10 nano, an HDMI cable, a micro usb to full sized usb adapter, and a usb controller, much of which you probably already have, and you can buy the other stuff later if you want to expand your options. You don't even strictly need to get a micro sd card because the de-10 nano includes an 8gb card, which is plenty for several of the earlier systems the mister supports. If you want to play on a crt the price doesn't need to get that much higher, there are various hdmi to vga and hdmi to component adapters that are pretty cheap and won't add any lag, but you do need to do some research to make sure you get the right one.

@@coopercummings8370 Thank you so much for the message. Mister is a bit confusing so what you said here will definitely help me. Cheers 🙏
@coopercummings83703 жыл бұрын
@@retroistaba Many of the cores do need an additional ram module, but the usb hub and IO boards are almost entirely optional. this project integrates the ram, io board, and usb hub into one pcb with a few extra features. The IO boards do have a secondary sd card slot that used to be used for the hard drive space of some computer cores, some might still require that but for the most part they can now use the primary storage on the DE-10 nano, other than that a DE-10 nano and a ram board should play just about everything, but you may need to improvise a cooling solution (the io boards include a fan so you don't need to improvise with them). There is a possibility that the upcoming ps1 or saturn cores may require a dual ram board setup that wouldn't work with the analog io board or various other solutions that aren't part of the standard mister stack, but that has not been confirmed and I don't even think the developers of those cores have suggested it is likely

Great work! But also DAMN YOU! (and Bob from RetroRGB because it was his news round-up that brought this to my attention even though I was already familiar with your channel). I like my current MiSTer in its official case because it's so tiny and portable, so I don't want to sacrifice that. However, your product is very similar to a whimsical idea I had about putting one in a console style case, except yours is way better thought out and executed and is sexy and I want one! Not only that but you reminded me how much I love the idea of having a MiSTer in a keyboard case (reminiscent of the Amiga/C64/Atari 800XL) so now I want one of those too despite not having the D.I.Y skills required! Stop making me want things I can't but can but really can't afford! In the space of a couple of hours I've gone from being reasonably content with my setup (though I was already looking at buying a MT32-Pi) to wanting to own three MiSTer set-ups! PS: Do you think you'll ever make a similarly implemented keyboard case?

the consolised MiSTer Multisystem is one the most exciting developments happening in the retro-computing scene - was great to see and hear from the face behind the board :-) BTW, I've read about some companies deciding to ramp up manufacturing using 3D printing - I guess there's a cost analysis balancing point where it remains more sensible to stick with acquiring more 3D printers for more production capacity vs taking the plunge into injection moulding. Retro computing products probably are typically at volume levels where 3D printing is just the sensible option

Just to provide a bit of context of the SCART socket in the US, I've still got most if not all of the CRT TVs and CRT PC monitors I've used at home since the late 80s and none of them support SCART, in fact I believe the supported inputs are only RF, Composite, VGA, and Component, nothing I own supports S-Video. So I think that's the context behind many of the US related SCART comments. Of course thanks to some things in the retro gaming community SCART is becoming more known in the US and certainly can provide value as described in the video.
@GarryGri3 жыл бұрын
It may be worth pointing out that a full SART cable supports Composit video and RGB. You can implement S Video and Composit Video over a SCART cable. A lot of lower end products in the UK and Europe used SCART plugs but only used the composit video output, not the full RGB output, and sound obviously.

I really appreciate all the hard work. My question hasn't really been made crystal though. If someone has a stack already... is there any actual technical advantages besides output types (Scart..etc) that would make someone want to invest? Considering that they will then have an unused memory module...etc.
@RichRap3D3 жыл бұрын
Yes, we have some exciting expansion options that may not be possible on the stack because we connect more of the unused I/O to our expansion slot. And then it depends on how many dongles and cables you already have - for example the HDMI CEC isolation, that either requires a dedicated non CEC cable or a dongle when used with the stack, but we have that as a set of switches on the Multisystem board. It's a lot of little tweaks to make it more easier to use. And finally why not have both, the stack is great for experimenting with new cores, settings and general tinkering, and the Multisystem is just great when you have a setup of machines, cores and games you just want to keep plugged in and enjoy.

I'd like to see this in blue. I'll order in the future if I ever get a chance, based on supply of course.

I hope you got success with this project so maybe it's mass produced and became affordable. So far it is a work in progress but I think it has potential for more stuff.

As for potential of the DE10. Some devs have been saying that the N64 will probably be about the limit for it. That it is possible but will take a lot of finesse. And that it would absolutely be a hybrid core as well.

I just checked your website and the MiSTer Multisystem Deluxe Kit is already sold out!!! How long will it be before people like myself can purchase one??

Sorry about that, we'll have some more information soon to help set expectations for more. You can still get the board only and add a case and PSU, and then a DE10 Nano from Digikey if you want to do it the long way around.

1:20:54 S-Video is not S-VHS, it standards for Separate Video. It's found on many video devices including DVD players, digital camcorders and even some professional studio machines.

Yes, that slipped out. Growing up in the 80's S-VIDEO and SVHS were both things to get very excited about. Sometimes with AV equipment they were both used in conversation - I still use Laserdisc's, so forgive me for the slip up ! If we do an adaptor it will have Composite and S-Video (Separate Chroma and Luma) connections.

@@TheRetroCollective I remember 250 (PCBs) being spoken of as an order more threshold. So order more then it seems 😉

What would be the point of scalping when they are able to make as much units as there is demand for?
