Mister Wu the Iguana & Chilly the cat have breakfast

Chilly & Mister Wu are training to get along & doing a good job so far.. they are both rescues that scored a sweet home.
Just before this video was taken, we returned from a weekend getaway to find the Iguana cage open, and the Iguana & cat both unharmed, ignoring each other with smug looks on their faces.
I wish I knew what happened, but can only imagine that they came to some sort of mutual understanding, probably involving wicked tail thrashing & hissing.
This is actually a good thing~ Now training may begin...

Update: Mister Wu is about 3 years old now & has developed the most amazing relationship with both the cat & the 2 Dogs in the home. The way they interact makes me smile every day. We have moved to Michigan since the years since this was made, & he is an incredibly healthy, spoiled boy! About 4 feet long now & 9 lbs. & full of personality. I''m so happy I rescued him, thanks Amanda Cuevas!

Haha simply awesome video! I think they get along because the iguana doesn't act like the cat expects it too. If it were to act scared and run away then the cat would feel like a predator. Since the iguana doesn't give the cat any signals that it can recognize it doesn't know how to react lol. I had a similar experience when I introduced my young 4.5ft Nile monitor to my cats. They were super curious but had no idea what to think or how to react to him lol. If you get a chance lookup lions vs Nile monitor. Lions get just as confused around a big lizard. There are probably half a dozen examples on KZbin, you might find them interesting. You can also watch me introduce my monitor to my cats on my channel, although it's not nearly as good as your video!

yes, it is squash... I e-mailed this person with a lot of information. The primary diet is mustard greens, green beans & squash; with treats of mangoes & berries. He has become hugs & very healthy on this diet.

this video was taken several years ago... I should post a more recent one because these days, the cat knows who's boss in the house! The Ig charges at him & the cat knows to stay out of his way. He's no dummy though, when the Ig is out of his enclosure, he finds another part of the house to relax in! So yes, there is hope, it just takes time =)

Sounds about right. Mustard, collard and dandelion greens make for a good, solid staple. Fed mine squash as well since butternut really brings out the blue/teal color in them, although cooked and mashed it to make it easy for Liz. Had her for thirteen years but it seemed to do the trick, was cancer that got her in the end.

To lac0325: Have you ever heard of training your animals? Sometimes you have to take a tone that may be seen as somewhat unpleasant with them. Both pets get along great now, thanks to me teaching the cat to leave the Iguana alone when he was small.

They are both rescues that scored a sweet home? The cat isn't treated very nicely, and you don't even tell people anything about what you fed the iguana. The headline says they both ate breakfast, and that's not true, either. If you were that concerned the cat would hurt the iguana, you should have let them eat in a separate environment where the iguana could be less stressed.

That is what we call acclimating iguana's which means getting them used to things. If you keep them separate the iguana will not learn that the cat is harmless and will never live peacefully with his other animals. His kitty is just curious. I'm pretty sure he knows not to leave the animals together unsupervised anyway. How about you let people raise there animals the way they want and not what you prefer >:(
