That is an awesome alternative to sewing those strips. I’m gonna try that but I would like to keep those points on. That might be to hard when putting a backing on though. It scares me when I watch you cut when you go under your arm. Dangerous it seams. My hubby who works with wood for years now is sewing and learning to embroider. It is so nice to see more men sewing. They have a club going on in many prisons for men that teach crocheting, knitting, and sewing. Very calming. These hobbies are not just for women.

Mr Domestic, you’re my hero! I took a little quilting class about 10 years ago and I had sewn a bunch of strips together as we were instructed to. But! Teacher had me rip all of it out as I had not alternated the direction of the seams. Instead of all being north to south I guess I was supposed to sew one north to south and the next south to north and keep alternating. I got so frustrated I didn’t finish and gave the whole thing to charity unfinished. My question is.... are there rules to quilting like that in order to get the pieces to lay right? Does everyone follow meticulous patterns and order of piecing? You didn’t look like you were concerned with seam direction. I’m thinking that the stretching/not stretching thing you did at the end bit took care of any buckling issues? Or were you using your secret quilting superpowers? ie experience to make it work so beautifully. If my question is too much I’ll just keep watching 😉

Mathew, I love you. I love your infectious laugh. I love all your projects, and your short cut tips. Nesting seams, genius. Could you please do me one favor and adjust the volume between regular and fast forward? The music for the ff is a squich louder than your voice. I find myself lowering and raising my volume each time it changes. I don't want to miss your directions, but my sensitive ears don't want the louder interludes. Thanks.

I’m trying really hard to find a patterned fabric like you have in this video, and I can’t find anything. Do you have links to be able purchase this? My son is leaving for college next fall and I’d love to have something that is masculine but not Uber masculine for a herringbone pattern. He’s a scout so this catch and release is perfect.

It's a great way to make this quilt without too many seams like the HST method but his way of cutting caused me much concern. We've always been taught to be extra careful with the rotary cutter - he could have cut more safely by cutting up and down
