1 hectare is abbreviated by ha because it means 100 are (hecto are). I am surprised you don't teach your students about the decametre (10 metre) and the hectometre (100 metre).

Iemand Anders Those aren’t practically used. For nearly all applications, mm cm m and km do just fine. I completely understand why he initially left out decimeter until brought up by a student.

gotta be mindful that he is a teacher and he has to follow the syllabus. He has to make sure he teaches all the syllabus dot points to his students before the final Higher School Certificate exam. So, there won't be much time to teach non-trivial stuff like this.

The lengths that I know on that list are: millimeter (1000th of a meter) centimeter (100th of a meter) decimeter (10th of a meter) meter (1 meter) dekameter (10 meters) Hectometer (100 meters) kilometer (1000 meters) He uses the metric system and he doesn’t know these. I’m Californian and y’all we use the imperial system. Smh.

Do you seriously think he doesn’t know them? For that level of education, there’s no reason to get that granular. Nearly all applications do just fine with mm, cm, m, and km.

And ounces in a pint, pints in a quart, quarts in a gallon, etc.... aren't confusing at all. A system based on powers of 10 is far easier to understand an convert compared to arbitrary numbers

@@Hoa_G_Pham That's true but I've met many ppl who don't understand even the metric system. I'm surprised that they cannot learn that. They'd surely die if they had to learn the imperial system. To know the metric sysytem you just need to know some of the affixes (centi-, deca-, kilo-,...) and which ones are bigger or smaller.

@@matej_grega I absolutely agree. It's "confusing" because it's unfamiliar. However, once the prefixes become familiar, the best part is the same prefixes apply to every other units of measurement.
