Very good Congratulations! I just noticed a certain vibration in the arm that could be a lack of alignment, but nothing that compromises the project. The arm bearing idea was brilliant!!!! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
@cragybar3 жыл бұрын
Add a spring to the arm to keep it in tension and make it cut on the push stroke rather than the pull. Also weld the frame as it will work loose eventually and end up loose. As for accuracy if you shim the sides of the slide with either plastic or even brass screws it will help it perform much better in the long run. Apart from that I'm off to make one thanks for the idea man. 👍

If you can engineer this contraption, you can engineer an auto oiler. Great job but me, I will use my angle grinder.
@marcusgamerpro66294 жыл бұрын
Lol exactly with angle grinder for this time you will cut 3000 pieces 😂
@tonywilson47134 жыл бұрын
You guys are quite right for the flat bar shown at the end but if its solid square or round stock over 25mm you'll start to struggle with an angle grinder. Is something like this as good as a band saw? NO, its not even close, *BUT* not everyone can afford a band saw and if your a backyard or shed guy then this isn't a bad solution. The thing I really don't like is the complete lack of guards. But I am an engineer with 25+ years in automation and we do guarding. This thing has so many pinch points its scary and just a glance down the right hand side the links show that NONE of the guys are guarding anything. That's all well and good if its your fingers but if its your kids' or someone else's then its just NOT.

Very nice build, but still should weld the frame up in the future, to keep sturdy ends, nylon nuts are good but not for such a heavy machine. I have a feeling a regular high quality hacksaw blade would be better for this machine, because it is not a weighted lever machine, and it will reduce shaking. Still very a very useful build. In fact this is the best build I've seen in these power hacksaws. Good job!

Good friend, good project especially for those who do not know how to weld metal. However the support arm, and the saw with the plate and bearings will have a considerable load on the blade with that modest thickness and the lateral stiffness does not seem to be sufficient to guarantee precise cuts. However, with little expense and little work and few tools he has created a credible project (but which can be improved above all in the friction of the connecting rod and crank).👍👍👍

This , in itself is interesting,.but the production, i.e. cutting speed leaves a lot to be desired,.I would think! This is why I would choose a band saw or a grinder with a cutting wheel over a hacksaw . But thanks for showing that this can be done.
@cragybar3 жыл бұрын
With weight on the cutting arm and the blade mounted to cut on the push stroke instead of the return this would probably cut 100 times faster.

use thicker metal to prevent wiggling. use add counterweight to increase cutting speed. add pump to raise the blade when moving backwards.

Very nice but needs to be weighted on top of the cutting arm, there's not enough down force and the gravity alone will make it take to long to cut even small pieces.

What this saw can do I can do quicker with an ordinary hand hacksaw and my muscles - and it will keep me exercised and fit too. This design is too wobbly to be accurate, and accuracy is normally one of the reasons why people use a powered hacksaw. Using a cheap machine vice as it does means that it can't easily do angled cuts. Pillow block bearings are an unnecessary expense - basic self centreing bearings pressed into driledl holes just a good and a lot cheaper. Actually, for this application which is light occasional duty, plain bearings are quite sufficient and cost nothing.

Yeah. Kills my ears too. I love the sounds of machining and rain, but this background noise here feels super sped up and has a very high frequency aspect to it. OP Should probably use a noise filter during editing to reduce some noise.
