I was thinking the same as I watched it come together. I guess this is what you do when nothing at the store meets your high standards. That bandsaw could end up in a museum after hundreds of years of continuous use, and future peoples would have an inflated sense of our craftsmanship in this era.

1:13 Hands of steal... My shop teacher always used to say "careful it's heavy..." and after we burnt our hands and dropped it he would say "told you it was heavy" Dude smokes of a layer of skin and doesn't skip a beat! One of the best scratch builds I have ever seen anywhere!

One thing i love about building power tools like one you built is that you can maintain it and fix it easily and there is not unnecesary electronics inside just good old electromotor and safety on/off switch. Keep up good work.

Great work! Nice to see you used a proper ball bearing race mounted on it's edge for the back of the band saw blade to run up against. Many cheap band saws just have the band saw blade continuously scuffing on the side of a ball bearing outer race to give back support.

It reminds me of my childhood when I used to watch lathe machining and mechanical work in our town at that time I was 9 years old and now I am 39 yrs. I love to see rusty steel cut into pieces and then turns into shining metal. The cutting is so cool like cutting a birthday cake. I love it.

I agree. Either he has stacks of CAD files of mechanical drawings for each segment or he used an existing machine's measurements to produce his heavy-duty rendition. I doubt he was "guesstimating" that much!....but maybe.

As an additional bonus to it you could swing it to vertical and make a table with a slot for blade in it and one leg to tighten into vise. Then you could freehand some part cutting.

Thank you :) In some projects I try to limit the use of tools that not everyone has in the workshop, so that the project could be easier to do for a viewer who does not have too many tools. I could do many things on machines, e.g. milling longitudinal holes, or turning wheels for a metal band saw , but I decided to limit the use of machines for this project :)

Me: buying all the equipment (hydraulic vice, mig, tig, stick welding, heavy duty jigsaw, heavy duty drill press with all the bells and whistles, heavy duty grinder etc etc), at the end my band saw build will still be a fail! Very nice workmanship, almost a factory made build.
