The dulcimer is my favorite folk instrument. Never fails to remind me of my appalachians, and in particular I think of when our whole family would take an annual trip to Gatlinburg, Tennessee which is nestled in the Smokies -- the real Misty Mountains.

It would be cool if someone made a wooden box for this and made little keys that struck the strings with hammers.

Dark Battle Chain that would basically be a mini piano

Great performance. Congratulations!! I've just bought a dulcimer that is very similar to yours, but I find it difficult to tune it because I don't have the tuning chart. Could you help me? Thank you

Hey, I don't think I've heard a Dulcimer with such a long sustain before. Is it something special about this one, or have I just not heard enough of them before now?
@TheEadgyth7 жыл бұрын
There is nothing special about my dulcimer. The sustain depends on the room I'm playing in and where I've placed my microphone.
@KMH120310 жыл бұрын
Excellent! What brand Dulcimer is the one your playing?
@TheEadgyth10 жыл бұрын

HEllo! At least I've found a H D - hackbrett correctly tuned... and looking as my new one. But could you please send or explain your tuning please ?
@TheEadgyth8 жыл бұрын
+Jean-Pierre Ghys Hello! I'll try my best to explain the tuning. I use an electric tuner to tune my instrument. This is a chromatic dulcimer. The tones are a whole distance in each row. This chart shows it quite nicely: www.timmanning.net/assets/images/Hackbrett-Tuning-chart.jpg It's almost identical to my dulcimer, except that my dulcimer has one tone more. I hope, I was able to help you.
@conradvonreinhardstein12758 жыл бұрын
+TheEadgyth It's exactly what I was looking for... many thanx for the quick answer. I will tune it soon... and try it again. By the way how much time did you use to be able to play like this ? Di you use any method ? Or just..; by listening ?
@TheEadgyth8 жыл бұрын
+Jean-Pierre Ghys I had a teacher for about 5 years and learnt many classic and traditional songs. Since I'm playing the dulcimer for 12 years now, I just once started to experiment with contemporary music. And I have to admit, it sounded good and that's why I still try various new things. If I want to learn a new song, it usually takes my about a month till I'm absolutely sure, that I won't make any mistakes while recording it. You just don't have to give up, even when something (like tuning) isn't going as you want it to. So, have fun with your new dulcimer.
@conradvonreinhardstein12758 жыл бұрын
+TheEadgyth OK ... 12 years... I won't panic before a moment..; my usual instruments are guitars, for a lot of years (I'm 52) but I want try to learn medieval kinds of instruments for reenactement... and fun at home
@TheEadgyth8 жыл бұрын
+Jean-Pierre Ghys You definitely should not panic. I believe in 2 years (at most) you will already be able to impress many people. And for someone, who already plays one (ore more) instruments, there should be no problems. As long as you have fun, it will certainly sound good.

You have a strange way of holding the hammers -- but it seems to work.

@bwanamfupi10 жыл бұрын
I've got a transcription that I think is mostly correct to how it's played here. I also transposed it into the key of D because it's easier to play without the B-flat. Message me if you'd like the pdf.
