Got to see Slam Stewart, Warren Vache, Geo Wein, Oliver Jackson, Scott Hamilton and one other.....a sax/clarinetist in 1984. The Newport Jazz Festivale All Stars toured the country and they played at my college. We saw them for FREE!!!!! it was great!. I remember Vache had left his mute backstage, so he took a 6 oz water glass, stuffed his handkerchief into it and used it as a mute!!! We all loved Oliver Jackson...we were screaming "OJ, OJ!"

lucky enough to see Slam Stewart in the 70's, what a talent and showman. One of the best. Also saw Warren Vache, I think in 1983 with Scott Hamilton, could have been at Eddie Condon's in NY. Great show.
