I like it that he says that even learning a few courses is great- it is important not to be discouraged by constantly comparing. I do know I have a lot of problem staying on track and will often go to tangents. I do work on myself on trying to learn to sit myself on something I want to accomplish though. I do write it that someone that see that knows that other people are struggling with that too, and not to get too much discouraged by looking at other people and thinking they can't, and not to put too hard goals that we know we can't do.

What you did is awesome. Personally, I did not start college until the age of 26, mainly because of economic reasons. I did manage to get a degree in chemistry, which translated into a wonderful career in science. During my last decade of work, I became a high school science teacher. Sadly, in the U.S. especially, I watched students take on huge levels of debt for a degree. Not skills, but a degree. There are many forces that push kids onto this track: high schools that want to boast how many of their students go onto college, parents that may not have gone to college and want to see their kids go, and peer pressure. If I were teaching now, all my students would know what you did. Thank you for sharing your journey.

@@mad_titanthanos I've been falling into and out of depression for the last 15 years of my life and I finally realized that I fall into it whenever I feel I'm not growing, and learning is the easiest way to keep that feeling away. Learning something new is an accomplishment on its own, which leads to bigger accomplishments. It's a virtuous cycle.

ok, but could you spend 25 hours a week? With two hours a day, for 6 days, and also I suppose you have a day off in which you could do 12 hours. Obviously, it won't be easy but it would be like a second job. With that it would be 2 years, in addition to obtaining a job you do not require all the courses of the MIT curriculum for a job in technology.

i read your book " learn more , study less " its awesome , especially the "Feynman technique" . i have one question though , how to learn math ? i am so scared of maths , i totally get confused and lost all those vocabulary and math concepts so confusing .

I think patience is important. It's absolutely normal to be confused in the beginning. Understanding mathematics takes time and you shouldn't feel stupid if you don't understand everything right away

freshapplenews go step by step. The thing with math is that people usually go for complicated concepts although they are already confused with the vary basics. The most important id say is to master the basics like a boss and then step by step go for more advanced things. Every time you encounter something really hard to understand just break it down. Define each word, make it so a 4yo can see what it is about.

Learning isn't just about remembering. Once you've learned something, you can always get back to it whenever you need it.

Learning is understand a concept. If you can't remember something, information can be easily obtained by a google search. The real value comes with application and core understandings of the concepts within a certain subject. Memorization without application is useless.

Just one day a week to maintain your career? Different world my friend. Studying part-time for an undergrad in the UK takes about 20 hours a week with a full time job. Studying full time with no job is about 35+ hours a week.

Hi I am writing this in hopes anyone can respond I am a 22 year old college drop out with minimal debt at best, now I want to return to college the only issue I am having is time constraint and I was wondering if this method can be applied to actual university now the goal I am trying to achieve is to spend a year learning the material such as you did then returning to college and trying to test out of the material since I already taught myself said material. Natalie Bonner Start where you are. If along the course of the challenge you find that you do not understand, focus in on the concept or idea you do not understand and start peeling back the layers of the concept until you do....hope it helps 💪

No chance anyone takes this approach seriously. Most of the classes were distilled to a single exam. There’s no validation that Scott actually learned or retained anything. This whole “challenge” comes across as purely attention-seeking behavior, especially since Scott never even attempts to actually apply this knowledge.

The implication here is that someone could "self-teach" using this method and *actually gain employment in that subject*, which Scott hasn't even attempted to demonstrate.

People, his claim of watching the CS lectures at 1.5x or even 2x the speed is absolutely ridiculous to say the least. I'm also learning CS on my own following a similar scheme: OCW, youtube lectures, etc. I can't watch a lecture faster than 1.25x and come out with real understanding. I think no one can unless you have an iq off the charts. The only way 1.5x works (barely!) is as a review once I've covered the material at normal speed and have practiced much, much time. And 2x? Not even as a review! Try it yourself. Find a complex topic and watch it at 1.5x (or faster) and you'll see it is hopeless. I don't know if this guy is selling something, but that specific claim is just ludicrous and should raise a red flag.

Different people have different auditory processing ability. I can’t reliably understand a lecture at 1x speed and need to rewind several times, watch with subtitles, or read my notes as I take them to understand what’s being said! I wish I had realized this about myself in actual college. Grades would have been better… >_>

Anyone memorize random garbage, but to be able to solve problems is the real challenge. When you get a degree in engineering or computer science you are really learning how to become a problem solver and not memorize random garbage. Business such as google, facebook, and amazon hire problem solvers not people who can memorize.

but the point of this challenge wasn't getting a job at google or facebook. 'the real challenge' is only something one can decide for oneself, others can't decide for them. so it's irrelevant to critisize or look down at other people's goals. also, having a degree in something doesn't make you an expert. and not everyone have the resources to get a degree. elon musk said he learned what he learned by reading books and talking to people.

@@jepkofficial well I was already enrolled in a bachelor degree when I posted that. However, in the second year I stopped attending the lectures, took a double load of courses, studied on my own from 10am to 8pm everyday and ended up graduating a year earlier with a fairly good gpa. In my system exam is 100% of the grade (no attendance, hw or whatever) so I could do that. I saved money, time, and hell I was proud. After that I travelled the world so I don't have a job yet. For the last month I'm trying to create my own business starting with something small and simple. Probably won't be able to launch it before this whole corona thing ends though..
