I do a little lazy finger-lift wave to everyone - folks on a bike or on their feet. But I agree with caller i was getting bad vibes after no one returning the courtesy. The title is satire. I wanted to gently poke fun at the extreme “performance” mindset many cyclists sometimes adopt (myself included). At the end of the day, many of us, even World Tour Riders, are just training to race our friends. Of course, more people seem to care when Tadej drops Jonas, or Wout battles Mathieu 😂

When I'm riding alone and I see a group passing me, I can not join them to test my limits or just to see how far you can go with their tempo? Is that really seen as rude? I never really realized that it is t.b.h.? Is there a way to do this without being rude? Because riding alone it is nice to be able to follow a little group for a couple of Km's.

Weighing in here from Europe. So, I fell in love with road cycling for the first time with like 16, watching Lance battle Jan at the Tour. Worked all summer to buy my first road bike. And I certainly didn't tell my friends - who, like me, were little HipHop kiddies and into skating and things. So I certainly didn't find cycling cool or swagy in any way 😅 So I guess it's less a regional phenomenon but more a question of the culture you grew up in and which role lycra played in it 😂
