I'm ashamed to admit this, but I've never heard of this talented musician, but what I can say is this, as a son and a father to two son's, this song brought me to tears. Beautifully written, heartfelt, and he done an amazing job. I'm an only son, named after my Dad, I lost him to covid Dec 11th 2020, and the hardest thing I've had to do, was meet one of my step-sister's to pick up my Dad's ashes...that was a long emotional ride home. I was 49 when my Dad passed, but I felt like that (his) little boy. Prayers to you brother, for I know that pain of losing a Dad! He lives in your heart and music forever!!

I loved your comment... As a Mum of two sons, I agree with everything you poured from your heart! My Dad passed seven years ago, and somedays it still feels so fresh! 😢 . I pray God will hold you especially close as you grieve the passing of your Dad. 🫂

So sorry for your loss bro, I don’t know what it’s like to lose a dad but I do know what its like to lose loved ones and it’s the hardest thing in the world. I’ve lost all 4 of my great grandparents and then my grandfather in the span of the last 4 years. And then last Monday I just lost my dog who was my best friend for 12 years. Life is tough and it’s short, but thats the beautiful thing about it, we have to learn to be grateful for every single day we wake up to spend another day with our friends, family, pets, loved ones in general.

I first heard Mitch sing when he auditioned on TV for Simon Cowell and panel. He sang this song, he wrote it. The story behind this song broke my heart and each person hearing it. He not only lost his dad in this tragic accident he also lost his grandfather and grandmother driving in another (seperate) car and all 3 were killed. Yes, two different cars killing 3 of his beloved family. Brave young man. Delighted his dreams came true. An amazing country voice presented to the world. What a blessing.

Wow! Thank YOU! Can't believe I can say Mitch Rossell replied to a comment. Truly made my day! I've been a huge Garth fan my whole life and have got to see him a lot since his comeback and so glad to hear you say how he really is the man I've looked up to for so long. I've been listening to your music since you wrote his number 1 "Ask me How I Know," and I absolutely love your music as that prompted me to find more of your stuff. I heard you sing this for the first time at Notre Dame the second time of the Stadium Tour but couldn't find it until recently. Crazy, I will be taking a screenshot of this and sending it to my nephew, who I've raised as my son, and he's a huge fan of both you two as well. God is amazing. You can't make this stuff up. Your response just brought a "father and son" closer in many ways. God bless you, man! What a blessing to someday get to meet you and Garth. Keep doing what is obviously your calling.

I played with Mitch probably 30x at Tootsies back in 2012. He was the most serious player & writer, always had the best originals, even then. I left to chase $ for family obligations. A few years later someone from there told me of his success with “Ask Me How I Know”. Was proud of him as I knew it was through diligence and hard work that got him there and not the hundreds of others who still come and go chasing similar honky tonk dreams. Great to see he’s still working and writing.

Son Lyrics My mom was always running Chasing after something I heard you couldn't tell her nothing When she was 19 She met my daddy And took off in his t-top Chevy But it went from hot to heavy When they found out about me Every other weekend Was all I got to see him Sometimes he'd come get me And we'd hit Tellico Creek We'd take that boat and drop it Grab the rods and reels and hop in He'd open up that tackle box And he'd open up to me And he'd say Son I hope you know how much I love you And when you're not with me I'm always thinking of you You're the drive inside my heart The reason I reach for the stars above He said my world revolves around you That's why I call you son We'd drive back to his small apartment It was hot wheels on the worn out carpet We'd play games 'til the Braves game started And he'd let me stay up late Time with him was always flying Sunday's never had good timing I'd start to pack and end up crying And he'd kneel down and say Son I hope you know how much I love you And when you're not with me I'm always thinking of you You're the drive inside my heart The reason I reach for the stars above He said my world revolves around you That's why I call you son I was gonna go live with him But I guess God had other plans Cause on a two lane road on a Tuesday night A drunk driver crossed that centerline They said my dad didn't feel a thing I wish I could say the same Cause losing him, it left me cold I was mad at God, couldn't let it go Then one blue sky morning A brown eyed baby boy was born and I looked outside and it started pouring I swear they were daddy's tears My old man, I could almost see him In that little face with a new heart beating The pain in mine started leaving When I whispered in his ear Son I hope you know how much I love you Now it all makes sense This place in life I've come to You've filled the hole inside my heart You're why I'll reach for the stars above My world revolves around you That's why I call you son Yeah, that's why I call you son

Sadly this song rings true for a lot of people out there. A lot of broken homes out there, the kids stuck in the middle and don't understand...they only hear one side of the story based on who they end up living with, torn between both their parents, never really knowing the truth, other than sometimes one parent never wanting anything to do with the kid, or parents fighting over who they get to spend the weekend, holidays, summer, etc. with....a constant battle between adults with a child stuck in the middle wondering what they did wrong.

I first heard Mitch Rossell's incredibly beautiful and soothing voice on AGT last night. The emotional lyrics of his brilliantly written song "SON" can't help affecting viewers, especially a father with a son or sons of his own. I shared this on Facebook with dear Isle of Man friends who have sons. They love Mitch's voice and were very moved by his story and song. Mitch's close relationship with his father changed forever at a young age. The best singers have similar painful life events, but the most classic and lasting songs result with a star being born. The story of Mitch's life turned full circle when his own brown eyed son was born. Mitch's son "filled the hole inside my heart...you're why I reach for the stars above...my world revolves around you...that's why I call you son...yeah that's why I call you son". Words to touch the heart and soul forever. Performing on the Grand Ole Opry stage, with the love and support of a large audience, must have been a dream come true for Mitch Rossell. I'm sure his father in heaven was watching Mitch with pride and a full heart 🎭 🎸🎤⭐️💙. From Ontario, Canada 🎉 xx
