About Noam Chomsky:
Noam Chomsky is an American linguist, philosopher, cognitive scientist, historian, social critic, and political activist. Sometimes described as "the father of modern linguistics", Chomsky is also a major figure in analytic philosophy, and one of the founders of the field of cognitive science. He is Institute Professor Emeritus at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he has worked since 1955, and is the author of over 100 books on topics such as linguistics, war, politics, and mass media. Ideologically, he aligns with anarcho-syndicalism and libertarian socialism.

so many good lines. "First we destroy them. Then we punish them for fleeing from the ruins." (definition of a refugee crisis in the 21st century) "The institutions, they look powerful. But they basically collapse as soon as the population becomes engaged. They are very weak" This entire seminar, 100% of it was very insightful and i would recommend it to anyone who is currently struggling to live in the 21st century

Back in the 90's Mr. Chomsky was making paper back books so the American people could actually become informed. Some of the people I spoke with at that time were very sadistic thinking he only wanted the money for his books. If one realizes that even Mr. Chomsky was truly risking his life by doing this even back then. People would have given and still should give him respect for understanding the absolute importance of the truth in life. These could have cost him his life and I'm sure he was afraid and yet he prevails . I hope at least some of us can see what basically he understands is we have to change all of this soon.

After listening to Chomsky for even a short period of time I always come away more enlightened than I was before. This man is always right on the mark with everything he says. I now listen to his speeches and lectures every chance I get. The sad thing is once you've listened to Noam concerning the United States, Capitalism and global warming you can't help but feel sick. That's because the truth really fucking hurts. Nonetheless, I wouldn't trust anyone else to give me the truth better than this fine intellectual gentleman Noam Chomsky. I completely agree with what the last woman mentioned, about reflecting on your own actions, what you are doing in your individual lives to reduce your impact on the environment, instead of pointing fingers at everyone else and everything. I have been to many climate change conferences, including the UN, where people talk big, but do NOTHING to make ANY change. In fact, they resist making any change to their own lives, and expect everyone else to change! Introspection and self- evaluation is indeed very difficult. :) Kudos to her for having the courage and guts to speak up at an event with such an esteemed guest.

I did in fact for 14 years risk my life, limbs, and epidermis by bicycling to work seven miles away, in the cause of personally not fouling the local atmosphere with motor car fumes. I still get most of my groceries, in my retirement, by walking to a place about 3/4 of a mile away. But those 14 years ended when my front wheel was hit by a car whose driver ran a red light across a six lane street. I concluded that this was not something that I could recommend to my children, or anybody else. I took to the Metro for the rest of my employed career. Since then, to my astonishment, I have learned that there is a very determined opposition, in Britain, the EU, Australia, and the USA, against civilian nuclear power, the ONLY thing that can put the fossil carbon industry *_Out Of Business._* It should be evident that there is nothing about wind turbines that can improve upon the power of a full-rigged "Man-o'-War", or a clipper ship like "Cutty Sark", or even a single-handed Atlantic racer like Francis Chichester's "Gypsy Moth". But, alas, wind powered sail was swept from the seas by coal and then oil.

Agreed with Chomsky. We have alot to learn from him. I am stunnishing about why we don't collectively listen anymore to those who have a better understanding of the social issues and environnemental issues. These day, we pretend to be more intelligent than never, but I think it is not so. Some of us have carry alots of informations, but are unable of critical mind which is the fondamental for intelligence in my opinion. Even in the scolar system it's not the purpose. I think it comes from the fact that media are there to make money and not to provide information anymore to make sure everyone is having a better understanding... Is it because it's more easier to control non intellectual people?... The anwser is obvious and maybe comes from basic cause of our economic system and gouvernance system. It's a fact now that our so called democratic system, which is not very democratic, just saying, encourage people to dismiss from political issues. Maybe it's time to have a serious talk about those issues... Having only Chompsky talking about it is not enough.

Noam is incredible when he speaks about his own expertise topics. As soon as he falls off, as he is with the Doomsday models about CC that are so unrealistic that the ICCP has said it themselves. The likelihood of catastrophic events due to a rise in temps of 1- 1.5 degrees are extremely improbable.Since any model is only as good as it's inputs,we see models so far lopsided it is an embarrassment to actual reputable scientists, which there are many, unfortunately the public rarely gets to hear from them Oh well, Chomsky can't win them all! Consider he still believes in the USA over 50,000 plus die each year from the effects of 2 and hand smoke, a claim that unless you were in the tank already a 6 year old would know this is completely absurd & based on lies,as it assuredly is!! So, since China produces the largest amount of greenhouse gases, shouldn't it take the largest percent of climate refugees? afterall , it produces 10 billion tonnes of co2 a year. That's the European and USA CO2 amount together. India makes 4 billion tonnes a year and climbing rapidly(the same as Europe). Indonesia does it's contribution by burning it's forests and even Africa has major contributions and growing massively because of it's population. 36 billion tonnes of CO2 a year for the world and growing. So I say once again that implementation of carbon capture tech is a must do now. Not years from now when it's too late. Research should focus on making sure the bacteria released will produce CO2 instead of methane from the permafrost melt. It can do either based on whether it's making gases in aerobic or anaerobic conditions. (that means we could possibly control whether these newly revived bacteria produce CO2 instead of methane.)

This is all based on the assumption that the warming climate is man made. In fact we are reaching the end of an inter glacial warming period and if the climate was not warming it would be cooling as the next big freeze begins. The rate of sea level rise has declined sharply in recent centuries as has the rate of temperature rise. At the end of the last inter glacial warming sea level was several meters above the present level. At that time there was very little man made carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. So an interesting lecture based on a false premise and leading to false conclusions. No doubt there will be shrill response to these comments by devout adherents of the global warming religion who follow in the footsteps of other religious frenzies.

The success and abundance of Western Civilization was not accomplished by public sacrifices for “the common good” but by the productive genius of free men in pursuit of their personal interests and the realization of their own private fortunes. “Real Socialism” has never been tried in the same way that “Real Laissez-Faire Capitalism” has never been tried. The difference is ‘almost Socialism’ resulted in the impoverishment & death of hundreds of millions of people. While ‘Almost Capitalism’ has lifted billions from absolute poverty, extending life and making the life experience much better for all those involved. Coal, fossil fuels, and the semblance of Laissez-Faire Capitalism that existed from 1865 to 1920 +/-, saved the forests and the whales, not to mention mankind in general. Fossil fuels. The 100% natural organic compound, produced by Mother Earth herself, that is the most energy dense, ecologically symbiotic, safe, life serving, and economic solar energy storage solution in existence.

Shouldn't we be producing carbon capture units en masse to counter the increase in co2? (CO2 once made goes everywhere on the globe). i know everyone is waiting for the cheap 100$ per tonne threshold, but the tech is already here and has been for decades. Bangladesh, as a country, should be building sea walls to slow the onslaught of the rise. They aren't blameless either. Even the transports and food aid they receive has an energy cost. In fact, all transport of goods and food growing has an energy cost that is quite high. countries with large populations have their own large and growing larger burden to global climate change. Burning wood and coal are even more destructive than oil and gas. Still, I wouldn't want them to not come on line so carbon capture is the only real solution. The average person isn't going to cut back and the poor and rising people aren't going to cut back so this is the solution. Governments need to implement it now. They(the local governments) also need to implement local food sources(using hydroponics if needed) to stop this mass transport waste of energy to ship foods around to the needy also. Charity isn't the solution, only self sufficiency of countries for their people is.

Noam mentions intelligence, smart and stupid but did not risk defining them. Since everybody has their own definitions of these words I guess he wants to be right and liked rather than risk upsetting his predefined audience. Here is mine (at great risk): *Intelligence is having the ability to ensure, your genes survive, helping your greater intelligent community to survive, and especially, that the planet survives. An extra special measure of intelligence is being able to deal with smart and stupid people especially when they are in the majority. *Smart is having lots of children, associating with lots of other smart people, and thinking that intelligence is trying to grab every resource on the planet available hoping that you and your genes survive. *Stupid is thinking that smart people are intelligent and trying to emulate them. My other upsetting disagreement with most people, including Noam, is how to save humankind on this planet. Every time in history that trees have disappeared so have all large mammals. It has happened at least 4 times according to experts but humans have beaten the odds over the last 200,000 years. Human Civilisations locally have collapsed and disappeared many times over the past 200,000 years but enough humans survived to leave those areas and travel to other areas and start the process again. WE HAVE NOWHERE ELSE TO GO: Smart people are buying properties in remotes place such New Zealand, South America and even buying their own islands as though that will save them. The days are gone for moving to another area to start again. If humans cannot restore the ecology of where they live it is no use crowding into richer countries as in other times in history as climate change is global and we unless we have a plan to recover every inch of this planet then there is no place to hide from smart and stupid people coming to replace us. How can we restore the ecology of the planet, so that all countries can feed themselves and thrive. Cows, sheep, chickens and the land they need are the prime cause of climate change. The rainforest is important for its plant and species life but deciduous trees are more important for converting CO2 to Oxygen and rebuilding soils. We need to go back to what created the planet's soils and that is plant deciduous trees. This entails replacing all existing farming and especially of animals and setting all able-bodied people to planting trees. Food production and human health is getting worse because of the dramatic loss of minerals in the soil which is also causing human health to deteriorate. It is impossible to add the 70 or so minerals into the soil for plant and human health and so as the planet is reforested mile wide polytunnels can be used as firebreaks and all food grown in soilless cultivation. These plants are grown under LED lights programmed to emulate perfect light growing light. The 70+ mineral fertilizer needed for all super healthy food is available in seaweed but we need to take care of the oceans and farm them carefully. If you want meat it will have to be animals that can forage in the huge forests. All land will be taken over for trees that give us oxygen, timber for all construction and attract rain. The last problems intelligence has to deal with is, how many people can the planet maintain and how to deal with the smart and stupid?

Yes it's a certain shame when the CC models from MIT are so unrealistic and insane that the ICCP has said as much. Model s are only as good 👍 as the initial inputs & can easily be manipulated to come to any findings the designer demands.Especially when their next millions in government grants depend on their incredibly unrealistic results! Heard of Noam Chomsky before but first time I heard him speak. Deep, calm gravelly voice that lulls you to believe what he says is true. But really disappointed in that much of his claimed science was nothing of the sort. Paraphrasing - This 6th extension is unique in that the large animals are preferentially impacted is contradicted by his preceding words where he noted that the 5th extinction led to the extinction of the dinosaurs. What are dinosaurs but huge freaken reptiles, and the small reptiles and mammals survived. The Quarternary extinction 15000 years ago is called the mega fauna extinction because it involved the disappearance of large mammals over 40 kg. In some of the other extinctions such as the Permian-Triassic kinda of hard to play favourites when 95% of all marine species and 70% of of all land based species became extinct - of course such a mass extinction would have hit every level. Well the 6th extinction that Noam claims we are in now and is caused by man - According to Green Peace (not that they should be considered the authority) only 18 animals have perished in that last 100 years and most of those up to 1960 before we truly became aware of the need for conservation. Now let’s look at the successes in bringing back species that we were moving to extinction but have now changed their coarse - most whale species, polar bear, bison/Buffalo, grey wolf, condor, bald eagle, beaver, Indian tiger, panda bear, mountain gorilla, etc. Fossil fuels saved the whale which was hunted for its blubber to make oil, and since the advent of fossil fuel use and intensive agriculture we have stopped the destruction of our forests - which up to 1900 we were tearing down at unsustainable levels for fuel and to clear land for subsistence farming and for manufactured goods (because we did not have many choices for alternate materials). The size of North American forests today are about the same as they were in the early 1900s even though our population has quadrupled. In 2019 it was announced for the first time that China had an increase in forest coverage in part due to fossil fuel use (reducing the previous reliance the Chinese had on using wood as heating fuel) and the greening of the planet due to the increase in atmospheric CO2 concentration as noted by numerous NASA satellite studies. Noam disses the USA on environment and praises China! Well with the advent of fracking under Obama and the excelleration under Trump the US has reduced GHG emissions over the last 10 years more than any other nation. The industrialised west is responsible for 25% of the worlds GHG emissions which have been on a steady decline for 30 years. Where as the increase in global emissions have been attributable to the remaining 75% led by China and India. Noam praises China for their green movement - unbelievable ignorant comment. China reached the same level of ghg emissions as the USA in circa 2006 and it only took China 10 years to double that - China is now emitting 30% of the worlds ghg. So if CO2 is your measure, China is the worlds largest polluter. Yes China manufactures 65% of the worlds PV solar cells but that is because they have massively expanded their mining of the non renewable minerals that go into solar panels and massively increase coal power generation to power the factories in which the PV solar panels are built. Chiba burns more than 50% of the worlds coal and Noam puts them forward as an icon of the “green” movement we need today. China also manufactures 45% of the worlds steel - 200 tonnes or more that goes into each and every wind turbine, and they control 95% of the worlds mining and supply of rare earth metals that are used wind turbines, solar panels and rechargeable batteries for electric vehicles. China is actively building and planning to build 100s of coal fired power plants domestically and throughout Asia and Africa so they can continue to mine minerals cheaply and power their growth - and according to Noam they are a Green example we should all follow! Germany’s wind energy transition has been a massive failure - they have the most expensive electricity in the world and now that they are shutting down their nuclear power plants - the only existing technology that can displace fossil fuels - their ghg em missions have gone up as they rely more on coal. Germany is now building one of the worlds largest natural gas pipelines with Russia so they can have natural gas from Russia - a fossil fuel if Noam did not know - to power their economy. And their could be much more to say. I guess for Noam the story is more important to the cause than reality. But I hear he is an amazing linguist.

@@atayo490 You think history only goes back 10,000 years ? Besides that, those graphs are propaganda, not accurate depictions of the last 10,000 years. You know how I know that ? The Medieval Warm Period 1000 years ago was warmer than today, the Roman Warm Period 2000 years ago was warmer yet and the Minoan Warm Period was warmer than that.
