Thanks. Just bought the 10 inch Toolshop compound miter saw from Harbor freight but someone else used it first without instruction book. Handed me my saw with a cup of parts because they couldn't figure out guard after tightening blade. Your video helped a lot. Working now.

I purchased a Chicago Electric miter saw from Harbor Freight. I did not see the other label. That showed the screw to loosen so the safety guard would raise up out of the way. I accidentally loosen the nut on the bolt and the whole assembly came apart. Thank you for this video!!! I was able to put the safety guard back together and install the blade. That did not come with the 10 inch Chicago electric miter saw.

Not an easy task for me. Unfortunately, when I loosened the first screw, the spring sprung so hard it broke several key pieces of the plastic guard cover. I was afraid that would happen but I don't think I ciuld have avoided it. Now ai not only have to put it back together, I also need to find a replacement cover. Operating this saw without this safety feature in place is just too risky.

I'm struggling with my 10" Chicago Electric. Am I supposed to fit the ends of the springs into the holes in the black guard or does the guard just go over. I can't make my spring stay in place when trying to reattach the black guard. Would appreciate more visual help. Thank you.

KM, I wish I could help, but my saw is a Menards brand called Tool Shop. Your saw may be similar, but it isn't the same, and I could only guess at how the Chicago Electric blade guard assembly is built and how the spring is engaged.

Hello Mark here: I watched your video on how to assemble the blade guard for the Mikita miter saw. Very nice. Do you know if there any information on how to reassemble a blade guard for a Chicago 10" miter saw? This is a saw I got from Harbor Freight some time ago. I also notice that the blade guard has changed on the newer 10" saw, as I went there to just look at it to understand how it is assembled. I do understand the order of assembly, but I'm not sure how that spring attaches. Pictures would help. Thank you.

I got a hand-me-down miter saw the same model as this, and the blade guard broke! Right where the arm attached to the guard (that plastic area that accepts the screw). I think they stopped making the parts too sadly.

Matt, sorry about that broken blade guard! During a move, I lost the hold down that came with my saw. I have not been able to contact Tool Shop for a replacement. The owner's manual doesn't include a parts list either. Tool Shop is Menards own brand, but when I asked an employee for help, he said I needed to contact Tool Shop. And around it goes. I just live without the part I need.

How did you get that blacl guard off and on? I cant find a square bit big enough
@markbeuligmann7363
@markbeuligmann7363 3 жыл бұрын
The black mounting bracket is attached to the saw arm by two screws that require a #3 (large) phillips screwdriver. For blade changes, you can swing the bracket out of the way without removing it. Just loosen the two screws enough so that the bracket pivots on the back screw. It will pull away upwards from the front screw, giving you access to the bolt that holds the blade on. Remember also that the blade bolt loosens by turning it clockwise. But maybe that's more than you asked for... Hope it helps!

Nice video! Mark, and others, my guard goes up when I pull the saw down, but does not retract in the safety position. Seems like the guard hits the front screw. Any ideas? Strangest thing I've ever seen and can't seem to figure out why this is happening. Maybe can you show "how to" install the guard? Thanks in advance.
@markbeuligmann7363
@markbeuligmann7363 4 жыл бұрын
Danny, I have a few thoughts. First, is the spring engaged at both ends? If it isn't, it won't pull the guard back into the safety position. Second, is the guard catching on something right at the beginning of retraction, or somewhere in the middle? Make sure all screws are tightened all the way down so that their heads don't stick up. Is it possible on your saw to tighten the pivot screw so tight that it locks up the guard? Hope this helps you find a fix!

@@markbeuligmann7363 , thanks for your reply. There was one more thing I didn't really look at and when I took the unit off (and seeing another video with a "similar" saw, I could have sworn the plate with the 2 screws came off a certain way. Well, this is a DOH moment for me indeed...but the bracket was 180 degree out and the slotted screw hole was to be in front and not in the back. A friend came over and without even knowing the unit had it fixed in seconds...OPPPS for me! And thank you again for your help. Its like the computer tech asking the client "did you plug it in"? I feel real stupid and we're having a good time with it...LOL

Danny, as noted in the Part 2 video, I made the original video very quickly for one person who had requested immediate help. I was surprised at how many views it got subsequently. I believe it remains my most viewed video. I made Part 2 because I realized the first one lacked detail. I understand that both videos will only be helpful to a limited number of folks who happen to have the same model miter saw. Sorry it wasn't much help for you.
