He Said - She Shed

Жыл бұрын

BONUS: If you like drinking games, this is the episode for you!! Anytime you hear me say "aluminum" or "aluminum extrusion" you know what to do. :-0
Important Moments:
00:00 - Intro / lots of talking and planning (Apologies for the washed out look of the first scene)
02:32 - Testing methods for cutting and drilling the aluminum
10:00 - Cutting down wood for the lower shelves
13:12 - Assembly begins!
Lately, our episodes vlogging the build-out of the creative spaces within our outbuilding have been focused on Renee's art studio. For this episode, we'll go back in time just a bit and start getting caught up on some of the work in the wood shop.
Now that we have this huge, glorious space, I can build the miter saw station of my dreams! My design aspires to do much more than just be a flat surface to park one of my tools on. There are some nifty creature features in mind that I can't wait to bring out of my brain and into reality. I've been stockpiling this surplus erector set like aluminum stuff that I'm excited to put to use for the frame of this beast of a workbench.
In this episode, I'll introduce you to the project in general, the features I'm looking to implement, the materials I'll be using, then we'll get those nifty aluminum frames built.
Though this is a three part series, don't panic because you won't suffer three straight weeks (episodes) without seeing Renee's shining face! ;-) We'll be doing every other week (as usual) alternating "She Shed" projects with "He Said" projects.
Thanks for watching!

Hello friends! Just a quick note to acknowledge those caring comments from a few of you who caught me on camera without safety glasses and to genuinely thank you for your concern. It's a bad excuse but I was pretty excited about that first test cut on the aluminum with the new blade and got swept away with shooting the scene (yes, that's a poor excuse for forgetting PPE). Also, I'm still getting the hang of video production in general. It turns out making a thing and simultaneously documenting the thing, triples the time investment an I'll confess I find it also challenges my attention span for managing all the details. Again, not the best excuse but I'll endeavor improve on paying attention to ALL the things as this journey marches forward. Meanwhile, thanks for watching everyone!

You are wonderful at demonstrating your skills. I am learning a lot watching you work. Looking forward to seeing what Renee is going to show us next.

Very kind of you to say, Sharon. We're still super new at this so we're still feeling out what people are interested in watching. Some of what we produce is just frankly for our own satisfaction and documenting our projects but we DO really value feedback and input from our community. Thanks for watching!

David, for heavy metal drilling, I tried to keep a pint or two of used motor oil on hand, in a squeeze bottle (like ketchup in a restaurant). It's heavier than your WD40, and does a fine job of lubricating the drill bit. Reduce, reuse, recycle!

LOVE THIS! That's a really great tip, Dean. I'm definitely gonna try that. Hmm. I think I've seen cheap ketchup bottles at the dollar store.

Even though this isn’t the kind of content I’m really interested in, I did enjoy learning about constructing things with this type of material. Thanks for all the effort you went through to make the video, know it makes the project much more involved and time consuming.

This will be a nice workshop for you. Have you watched April Wilkerson on KZbin? She has some nice ideas on her channel for the shop

YES! I really love April. Her projects and the production quality of her videos are inspiration. I would love to be at a place where I could hire a videographer and an editor like April does. LOL! Both of those roles are filled by yours truly for the foreseeable future though. Thanks for watching Birdhouse Lady! We're glad you're here.

David, PLEASE put on a pair of safety glasses!!!! Unfortunately, my sweet husband got a piece of metal in his eye, which had to be removed at the hospital. I had a hard time watching this video for that reason.

Yes! Good advice. I was pretty excited about that first test cut and got carried away (yes, that's a poor excuse). Rest assured that the other 50 cuts (off camera) of the aluminum, I was in full garb (both eye protection and ear protection). Have a wonderful day and thanks for watching!
