A great story and naration , thank you :) One of the most badass characters in history , he actually claimed to be a descendent of Alexander and Cyrus the great ! ( His name Mithridates or Mehrdad in persian was a very popular name during the Parthian empire and even nowadays it is still a very common and popular name among the Iranians ,,,,,,, Mehrdad in persian can have two meanings : either "given by Mehr/Mitra/Mithra" or "Mithra's justice" )

That’s fascinating-I had no idea the name lives on. Thanks for the great comment!

@@WineDarkSea My pleasure :) And yes the name is very common actually ! But at least this was an Iranian name to begin with, Interestingly enough there are even many ancient NON-IRANIAN names that still live on & are common among the Iranians to this day ! For instance: *I doubt that any Italian is ever named "Ceaser" lol , but among Iranians the name is very popular actually* ( in Persian it's pronounced as "Kaysar" or "Ghaysar" , which ironically enough is closer to the actual pronunciation of Ceaser in old Latin than the modern day pronunciation of Ceaser in English ) Or for instance : Alexander which is also a very popular name among Iranians , pronounced in Persian as "Iskandar" ! Ofcourse many of the ancient Iranian/Persian/Parthian names are also alive & popular as well. Such as Cyrus, Bardia, Cambysis, Darius, Ardashir, Khosrow, Shapur, kavad & etc. (Female names too) ( an ancient Iranian people known commonly as the Meades however also had names that still live on , although it's not that common among modern Iranians of Iran but among the Kurds & Kurdish names or eastern Anatolians actually )

Amazing! And such a wide range of historical periods/regions that have left their mark, not just from Persian empires but even the Romans. Iran was at the center of so much that happened in ancient times.

@@WineDarkSea Indeed it was ! The Iranian empires (Median, Parthian, Persian, Turko-Persian) effected the world in all directions & the world effected Iran & Iranians from all directions..... This is what happens when an influential civilization is located in the center of the world (it will always effect others & others will effect it as well) For instance European history is rarely ever effected by people from the far east (except for Mongolians who reached & effected east Europe) , *but Iran/Persia was just as connected to India & China & Korea as it was connected to Greece & Rome & Egypt & Arabia* !

In light of all this, I hope you’ll check out the Cyrus the Great story on the channel from a few months ago-and I definitely want to do more from this part of the world, with all its deep connections to surrounding lands/peoples. Thanks so much!
