the exams themselves should be analytical and application based . writing and practical should be simultaneous . Or teaching should be in a way that knowledge becomes primary and marks become secondary . In my college , Half the batch rotted books and always only asked for question bank or notes . They did stand first but they lack in knowledge and basic practical skills . They never questioned facts of science . Just wanted to get marks and pass exams . And we have had some good professors who taught great .

And also not to forget its not about just joining things together, its understanding the fundamentals really well in a way that makes you super confident to build anything you please. Takes very good teachers to impart knowledge in a way that makes you really understand, and there's very few of them. There's people who know, and there's people who really understand. Access to tools that are in line with modern tech is very important too otherwise you'll never see things the way 'brilliant' people see them.

To everyone saying they cant get to MIT always remember the fundamentals will always be the same. If you cant get into MIT then you can try force yourself to start thinking creatively about the things you learn and try to build things no matter how simple. You'll be amazed how much higher thinking and innovation suddenly comes into your head just by creating something. You can also create cool projects by fully understanding the different forms of energy and how they can be converted to one another. Tools like Solidworks help you visualise and simulate stuff. Very costly software but they have some student versions. Also gettinga 3D printer if you can afford it, play around with arduino and watch channels like these to get motivated kzbin.infovideos ,kzbin.infovideos

All I can say is that this class looks epic, wanting to build "cool stuff" is one of the things that makes you want to study engineering. What will the MIT curriculum be like? because in my U I have not had any class like this (I study electronic engineering but you get the point) that allows me to design a project, and i dont think it could be given the first year because at the end of it is where we see the introduction to differential equations. Someone would tell me what classes would i have to take to make it to this class (because it says its the first year)? it would mind a lot This is amazing.

Some exams in engineering should be successful working models of technology, it's sad that most of the schools nowadays still teaches the way schools teach for like 100 years ago lmao.

I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand. With low-cost platforms like Raspberry Pi, anyone anywhere in the world can bring engineering concepts to life. All you need is the will and imagination.

To all those people blaming indian education system, you are true. But you won't understand that doors to knowledge are always open to us too but we spend time blaming others. You people don't know about ISSER ? It's completely focused on research and development! IIT is not the only elite college! To your surprise there are some schools too in which importance is given to practical experiences and not textbooks but we never took effort to find one!

Why? To get into MIT in the first place, many potential students have already gotten their feet wet in whatever industry they're applying for. I feel sorry for you it's not the case for you.

Okay these statements may be true... But these also put a spotlight on the fact that the kids were either guided and supported by their parents early on and/or they had advanced schooling which went far beyond public schooling.

@@justicelowman7493 yeah youre right! I have a lot of experience in CAD modelling and Fusion360, since my dad is an architect. I work for hours on CNC machines and 3D printers to prototype and design my own tools too, I really wish to go to MIT to further polish and develop more skills...... "mens et manus" is my motto

I am yet to attend my local university next year.(delayed due to Covid). I am learning about diff equ from a Coursera course about bio medical engineering. Not everything but I can handle some laplace tranformations and stuff. After this I am planning to learn parametric modelling as I have done mesh modelling at my Ordinary Levels. Adding to this, my family has no technolgical background since they are mostly bankers and clarical officers. So I have to learn everything by my self 🙁. I am still grateful to that elder brother in my school who showed me a little arduino board at the school IT lab. It is the spark which ignited my mind. Srry for my English.

I was interested in making innovative things, and for learn these things i joined mechanical engineering from an engineering college but there is nothing interesting i can learn in college, instead to teach amazing engineering stuffs, they r only giving us notes to pass the exams. I found the syllabus boring, useless. Whatever i learn, there is no role of college in it, i learn it by myself, internet etc resources. Spending 1.5 for degree only.
