Great lecture; concise and clear with a level of charm I can't quite put my finger on

I love you, professor. I mean I love the way of how you teach. Let's hope your teaching is going to work.

as an artist with a deep interest in math, I can guarantee you that Prof Strang's wonderful teaching style is going to good work... at least for me! His more recent series of lectures on linear algebra is also great.

This is a solid and clear lecture that me understand this part of differential equations. Using MATLAB also help with understanding planes and spirals.

Have a doubt , Why do we need phaseplane to know if the solution has source or sink. At the beginning of lecture professor tells that depending upon "a" we can tell whether we have a source or sink Can anyone help

As I understand it, this is just to showcase the "tool" of a phaseplane. It gives a handy intuition of the solution. It is important to note that these are all linear differential equations; non-linear differential equations are likely more difficult to find a solution, so it more often worthwhile to plot these phaseplanes to have a broader understanding of what a solution might look like.

Does anyone know what exactly 'sink' is?
