I have mitral valve regurgitation and a lot of days I have a hard time breathing. I deal with chest pains and tightness in my left arm. Lately my heart doctor has had me do a lot of test to see where we go from here. I have an appointment on January 25th to get results from all these test. I pray everything is good so I can go on with my life without all the issues I'm going through now.

My wife had her aortic valve replaced in Jan. of 2020, and had a terrible experience with the recovery. What was supposed to be 2 days in ICU, a day in Step down, and a day or two in rehab. A week tops, turned in to 6 weeks in the hospital. To say she's a little gun shy of having any kind of open heart surgery, would be an understatement. Now they are telling her she needs a Mitral Valve surgery. She told the doctors if they have to crack her open again to do the Mitral Valve, she's not having it. Now here's the kicker, she's going blind from cataracts, and they won't do the cataract surgery without cardiac clearance. I'm hoping that she's a good candidate for this procedure, and the doctor can assure her of the success of this type of heart surgery.

What is better. I need mitral valve repair with OHS and I am scared to death of developing Pump Head from the heart lung machine. Mitral clip isn't available for people my age. Why are they still using simple wire to close sternotomy ? Why not use sternalock? Wire sounds medieval.

They did not mention angioplasty or catheterization procedure. They used 2D and 3D echo imaging. Under the x-ray maybe they controlled the cable entry into the valves and touched and repaired the valves.
