I've been having a lot more PVC's and heart skipping beats. I have stage 4.Renal disease ( poly cystic kidneys and poly cystic liver). For me it's totally. congenital.. half my family has this. Half my family doesn't. I have had a nephphrologist for years. & my nephrologist is ordering an echo cardiogram. I feel really good though I find my heart rate goes up to almost 200 beats a minute when I exercise. I used to really push myself hard in.TRX classes and do Cross Fit or a kick Boxing class or spinning class. My heart rate would be the highest one in class.. even after months of consistently doing it. On top of that, I would also get beet red in the face and sweat profusely.. ( on my face, head and chest) not my arms and legs at all which stayed perfectly dry. I would also sometimes have to stop more often than the rest of the people in class to catch my breath due to Light headed feeling. and dizziness. Then, after the class,my heart rate comes right back down to the mid 70's after a several minutes break. However it takes me longer than expected to catch my breath..and my face would say red for hours. Recently my blood pressure has been kinda on the low side lately so my nephrologist is having me half my Lisinopril dosage. Keep in mind this is a medicine that I've been taking for 24 years.. Besides vitamins I don't take any other medication. Over all I feel pretty great. I actually have not done intense working out like what I mention above for about 18 months now. This is due to a cross country move and a life style change.. I've unfortunately become MUCH more sedantary.. for now, yet, I'd like to get back to really being more active and Gung ho again.. if it's safe... as long as I don't keel over in the class.. that would be embarrassing.

+Ask Me My Name - I'd definitely recommend you ask your Doc about getting a Holter monitor test to assess the frequency and number of irregular heart beats you're having. Most folks have several of these irregular beats every day, but their typically not frequent enough to be a problem, but if you're having symptoms like light headedness, shortness of breath, or chest pain in association with their occurrence, or if exercise seems to bring on the irregular beats, please get them checked out...Cjs

Respected Dr Cal Shipley , Really very impressive & very informative video. What do you advise some prevention for those who have MVP with Moderate Regurgitation ?
@TrialImageInc
@TrialImageInc 9 жыл бұрын
Rasheed Aghai - thank you! There is no specific measure that an individual can take that is known to reverse MVP with regurgitation, but maintaining good cardiovascular health through regular moderate exercise, keeping your body weight at recommended levels, and having blood pressure checked at least annually to avoid elevation (hypertension) will reduce overall stress on the heart and its valves. Provided you are otherwise feeling well, having the MVP assessed with an echocardiogram every few years is probably a good idea. Ask your doctor about this.Hope this helps. www.calshipleymd.com Cjs

Hi AE - No! Simple prolapse is almost never associated with rupture of the chordae tendinae. As shown in the animation, chordae rupture can result in a "flail" valve, with mitral valve failure and regurgitation. I hope this helps www.CalShipleyMD.com

Is operation a must for me? It's hard for me to gain weight even if I eat right, my body is weak and easilly got sick and become tired doing small chores. So what if your valve is infected and it gets to your heart is it too late then?
@TrialImageInc
@TrialImageInc 6 жыл бұрын
An infected valve is a serious situation. If caught early, it is possible for antibiotic therapy alone to cure the problem, but in many cases, the valve is damaged beyond repair, and must be surgically replaced by either a tissue or mechanical valve. Infected valves may grow “vegetations”. These are clumps of bacteria and inflammatory debris that adhere to the surface of the valve. Portions of vegetation’s may break free, flowing up into arteries of the brain, causing obstruction to blood flow, and possibly causing a stroke. You can see more about endocarditis (valve infection) in the Neurology Library at www.CalShipleyMD.com

I thought the same thing until I came across study guide by the School of Cardiac Ultrasound -Arizona Heart Institute Foundation, Feigenbaum H. Echocardiography, referencing - the America Society of Echocardiography. And it says: - "Secondary causes of mitral valve prolapse include all the following EXCEPT: A. atrial septal defect. B. bicuspid valve. C. cardiac tamponade. D. Primary pulmonary hypertension. And the correct answer listed is B with the following text: "a disease process that increases right ventricular dimension will decrease the left ventricular dimension, thus causing the mitral valve to prolapse into the left atrium during systole. Relief of the primary causes of right ventricular dilation usually resolves the mitral valve prolapse"

I think maybe they think that in some cases tamponade can reduce the size of the left ventricle by exerting pressure and decreasing the size of the annulus. Hence the MVP. But I could be wrong.

John Doe duhhhhh.. you get enough pressure on the area to stress the fibers that hold the valve down.

Most cases of MVP are relatively minor and inconsequential clinically during the life of the patient, however, a small percentage of cases will progress to mitral regurgitation, and ultimate failure of the valve, requiring urgent or emergent valve replacement. Https://www.CalShipleyMD

most MVPs are mild, and require little worry or attention throughout a lifetime. Hopefully you will be in that category...

Can Mitral Valve Prolapse diagnosed in my 20's, cure itself by my 40's and then come back at age 61? The prolapse was diagnosed by echo when I was 26, but at 45 there was no sign of it on the echo. The other day, my doctor heard the heart murmur on through the stethoscope and want's me to get an another echo. How is this possible that it could come back after curing itself.

hi Giffy - your situation is theoretically possible for a couple of reasons. First, a mild prolapse can come and go over the years, depending on factors such as weight change and general level of fitness Second, echoes are not 100% sensitive for detecting valvular abnormalities, especially relatively minor ones like MVP. It's possible that the echo at 45 missed it. I would definitely follow your doctor's advice and get the follow up echo, especially if he's hearing a murmur. Better safe than sorry. Good luck with it! Hello Doctor, does the mitral annulus contract/expand during either systole or diastole? Or is it rigid? And where can I find information about this? Thank you, Alex

@@genesisbunaventura8308 I'm from Brazil. First I went to a cardiologist due to episodes of tachycardia, palpitations and chest pain. ECG normal but when i did the echocardiogram, the diagnosis was there: MITRAL VALVE PROLAPSE (thickened anterior leaflet) and mild mitral regurgitation. I took propranolol and magnesium for a few months and I currently have no symptoms, except a very rare and fast stabbing pain in the chest, which disappear in seconds.

I don't understand how Mitral Valve Prolapse can occur WITHOUT regurgitation.
@TrialImageInc
@TrialImageInc 7 жыл бұрын
+vanderley3 - prolapse involves the valve leaflets pushing up into the left atrium during systole. Provided the leaflets stay in contact with each other (coapted ), regurgitation will not occur...
@alexk4044
@alexk4044 7 жыл бұрын
regurgitation = Reverse flow of blood, Prolapse= abnormal valve Leaflets pushing into atrium... when you have severe weak chordae tendinae(maybe during Rheumatic Fever) , leads to strong prolapse leading to abnormal flow of blood through the valve(regurgitation) ..hope this helps
